He's not getting written off... he's competing in camp with other QBs... exactly what you would hope for a 7th round pick. Just the same, Scotty McKnight, a 7th round pick, is back competing in camp with other WRs.

I think McElroy is toast at this point. He's going to have to have a light's out training camp to get the 3rd QB position. I expect the pecking order will be Sanchez-Tebow-the guy who has the great camp.

After that it's going to be very dicey for everybody else.

Agreed. I think McElroy sealed his fate with his radio comments about the lockerroom. For better or worse.

To be expected and 'if given a fair shot' I expect him to prove himself. He has the intelligence and football ability to be the 3rd string QB for now. Once the experience comes along... I expect bigger things and just hope they are with the Jets.

This is what I mean by 'a fair shot'... If the coaches think like the fan base, no fair shot.

None. Some of these guys are camp bodies....but I agree it may be over for McElroy. He wants to be a broadcaster anyway. Sims has all the tools, but never did shine at TEN for some reason (Tyler Bray).

He may indeed be a mechanic, but Simms sucks as a QB. Daddy got him on a team. That's all.

Not sure if either of these other camp QBs are better than McElroy. My guess is no, as long as that injury from last year didn't hurt him too bad into this year. The radio comments don't help, but at the end of the day, if he wins the job, he wins the job. He did kind of trash the locker room, but he said it from the perspective of a guy who wants to win and is surprised others didn't feel that way. He's not a bad guy.

McElroy is going nowhere and believe me if the CS sees someone else out there they feel can improve the roster all it takes is a cut and sign.
    It's not a big deal.

The thing McElroy has going for him is that the Jets drafted him. They hate cutting draft picks. They hate it so much that they'll let people like Danny Woodhead go before they'll cut a draft pick. Haven't figured out what the hangup is given that the FO thinks people drafted after round 3 are uniformly crappy anyway.

The thing he has going against him is a weak arm. That's just got to factor in here and if either of the other guys shows a better ability to make the throw McElroy is toast, the draft issue not withstanding.

And he opened his mouth at a bad time for the Jets.

This is pretty much how I'm viewing his quotes also. McElroy didn't call out any specific individuals, he was giving his impressions on the general vibe of the locker room. He's a young rookie and mistakenly broke one of the locker room taboos by leaking the internal drama outside ... or he didn't realize how much controversy his comments would draw.

    ===
Despite the controversy, I don't think the coaching staff is gonna hold it against him to the point he's definitely off the team. It might be a tie-breaker if McElroy and another qb are dead-even after evaluation but I'm not seeing the Jets cut McElroy to keep an inferior qb.

Can't I just kneel three times instead? Or do I have to prove I was a winner in the womb for that to count?

with the TC roster size increased by 10 to 90 players, having a bunch of camp fodder arms around to handle two a days throwing is something that every NFL team will be doing. No sense wearing out the arms of Sanchez, Tebow and McElroy when you have enough roster size to let a bunch of extra guys handle wideout drills in July and earn a few per diem bucks in an NFL camp

There are no more 2 a days, are there? I thought they were banned by the last CBA. Anyway, having more QBs in camp is never a bad thing.

turns out that 2 a days are allowed with certain restrictions....

    Section 6. Conduct of Practices:
    (a) The first day of a Club's preseason training camp shall be limited to
physical examinations, meetings, and classroom instruction; no on-field activities shall be
permitted other than running and conditioning. No contact shall be permitted and no
pads shall be worn during the second and third days of Preseason Training Camp. Thereafter,
two-a-day practices shall be permitted, subject to the following rules: (i) players may be on the field for a total of no more than four hours per day; (n) players may participate
in no more than one padded practice per day, which shall be no longer than
three hours of on-field activities; (ii)i there must be at least a three hour break after the
practice; and (iv) the second practice on the same day may only be for a maximum of the
remaining available on-field time, and shall be limited to only "walk-through" instruction
(i.e., no helmets, full-speed pre-snap, and walking pace after the snap). The three-hour
limit on padded practices shall begin as soon as position coaches begin to coach players
    on the field.
