I think you hit it on the head. You need to build a team with the line first because it takes a while for them to get up to speed. Certainly longer than six games. Like you said, they threw him in to learn the toughest position and he's faced some of the NFL's best. I'd be surprised if he didn't struggle. I don't think overall the line has done too bad.

Would you rather have drafted a rookie QB we don't need to get killed behind no line?

Leinart would look good in green.

Chad is good for now, but Leinart is a future star.

Being a 3-4 DE like Richard Seymour is what i call "delivering." hes like Kimo when he was with Pittsburgh, he does his job well. Seymour delivers beyond what a 3-4 DE should be doing.

So are you saying Castillo is in Richard Seymour's league, or Kimo's?

Pennington is healthy and the run game is getting better. He is not ideal yet, but for a rookie he is doing just fine.

Yeah, Brick and Mangold are fine. What is Brick supposed to do tackle the whole defensive line so Barlow can gain more than 4 yards?

I don't understand some of these threads.

I wasn't crazy about the Brick pick, but I support it. It was an objective pick by Mangini. Guys, let's face it, our Offensive line was a cryin' shame last year.

Yeah yeah yeah, I'd rather have D'Brick and Mangold then your choices of Mario Williams and Marcus McNeil. At least this way we get 2 good players instead of 1.

Exactly. People forget how we went through 5 qbs last year because they kept on getting killed and our best QB play came from Bollinger simply because as soon as he took the snap, he started rolling out cause the pocket would just break down. Oh and last i checked, last year we werent a running juggernaut either. The fact that were 3-3 right now means were doing something right.

Im not crapping on D'Brickashaw, its early in his progression and I know it was never his strong point, but I would like to see him run block a little better.

I know he's a "pass blocking LT," but if you take a lineman with the 4th overall pick I'd like to think we could be able to run behind him for the next 10 years. Its still early, maybe we will be able to run behind him in the future, but I sure as hell hope he doesn't become a one dimensional pass blocking tackle, we could always pick a guy like that up in the later rounds or in free agency.
Bottom line he needs to be dominant in more ways than one.

General comment about all our "he sucked/ no he didn't discussions".
Lots of people claim to "grade" players performances becuase its hip and cool to say that and come off as an expert. #1 most people aren't really analyzing anything, just trying to come across as intellectually superior and #2 most people if they did want to strictly analyze and "grade out" one player don't have the knowedge, experience or patience to do it properly.

Run blocking and Pass blocking are totally different skill sets. There are plenty of very good run blocking OL who can't pass protect for shit. Pennington is our franchise at the moment, hopefully we can upgrade at QB at some point but right now he's health and a pocket he can believe in and function in is way more important than Barlow getting an extra yard on a running play. Hopefully we can get our selves a legit road grader at RT along with a powerfull guard to put next to him and we will be able to run over the right side and still have a pocket that the QB can operate in.

If you compare D'Brick to the other top players we could have taken, it's hard to argue the pick. He has performed as well as any of the top picks.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson is doing great for our franchise left tackle. Sure he is going to get beat sometime but for the most part he is doing a great job protecting Chad's blind side. He is working on his run blocking and their have been times he's paved the way for some good runs. There is no need to panic he's doing fine, and it was a great pick for the Jets at 4. Be happy Pennington is not getting sacked every play.

Castillo is currently better than von Oelhoffen ever was.

He is not yet as good as Seymour.

I don't know exactly what constitutes "delivering" in your mind.

If you need stats, Castillo has good ones thus far. He has 4 sacks and an interception through 5 games. He is a huge key to that defense. He helps to free up Merriman to make plays.

I don't see how anyone can really complain about the job Brick has done. The kid has been great so far. Considering his experience in the NFL, and the job he is doing this year, it only bodes well for the Jets. He's only going to get better with time and experience. He's been solid. And by the looks of the poll most folks around here feel the same way.

On what basis is Castillo better then Kimo ever was? Kimo is one of the better 3-4 tackles in the leage. He was a key player on a superbowl team. He's smart, has great technique and knows exactly what his role is. It has not helped him here that he has no nose tackle next to him and that we have no linebackers that can rush the qb. But ask any Steelers fan and they will tell you how good and important he was to that team. They only let him go because they had Brett Keisel waiting in the wings.
