So after staying up to watch a match that started at 1-30am on a work night, I thought I'd try to dig around and try to find out where it all started. I found an interesting link (at least for those in the UK), which also contains a few youtube links should you wish to reminisce (or should US fans want to see what we had...yes it was that bad).

My personal journey begins at 5-30pm on Sunday 5th November 1982. My first ever taste of the NFL. Channel 4 were clever enough to schedule it against Highway and Songs of Praise (I think), which being programmes involving churches and chiors I had little interest in, so anything new was fair game for me. Apparently this show rounded up the two weeks of the season that had taken place. I know for sure that I did not pick a team that day, but reckon I probably did on the next show...which would have revealed to me a 37-0 victory (good score that, don't you think?) against the Baltimore Colts. I guess the green jerseys and a 37-0 win were enough for me. What a first season to chose, and as disappointing as losing in the Championship game was I felt confident of success to come. I know realise what it means to be a Jet, of course.

A couple of links, first up the weekly scores round up from 1982, this was it at the beginning:

About halfway down page 3 is a history of the NFL on British TV, should you be interested.
