Theyre also getting rid of Anderson and Quinn apparently. Id LOVE if we could give them Clemens for their 4th rounder.
not with Big Mike making the decisions. The days of raping Manigni's dumbass for players and picks is over. Holmgren is too smart for what Tanny did to his old friend.
I dont know if a 4th rounder is rape. Clemens only played a bit 2 years ago before we had Braylon and our whole team completely sucked. Didnt have a nasty ground game, our offensive line wasnt that good yet, Revis and Harris were just getting started. Im not saying Clemens is going to ever be a starter, but if you compare his first year starting numbers (8 games) vs Sanchez's 15 last year, youll notice theyre both incredibly similar and Sanchez had a much better team to work with. Although Sanchez did show flashes of promise, and great maturity in the playoffs, I really dont think a 4th or 5th rounder is that unrealistic.
Agreed. I think our best chance of getting picks out of Cleveland is draft day should Cleveland fail to get one of the big two. I can see them trading up to our spot to take McCoy. Trading for Wallace AND Clemens makes no sense. Of course, they're now linked to Delhomme.
a 5th is closer to what a team is willing to give up. Clemens is a 6th or 7th round talent at this point. He has such little trade value because he isn't a good QB. There is no one outside of Kellen himself who thinks he can be a good QB in this league.
ok so i dont want start a new thread on basically the same question but........................... how the fuck is drew coleman still here? he may be one of the worst DBs iv ever seen play the game of football at a professional level. first he survived the regime change and now(so far) he has survived cuts after a horrible outing in probably the 2nd or 3rd biggest game in jets history. i understand letting lito go over him. litos salary was much higher and just not worth it. but how can you let a guy like strickland go, (who yes was hurt a lot but when he played was pretty good) over drew coleman? this guy seems to never leave, he is like herpes. Maybe he is just here for depth right now since we cut lito, strickland and traded rhodes but if we bring in a guy and draft a DB i will be a little pissed off if this guy makes the final 53 man roster AGAIN.
A quote from walterfootball - "Jake Delhomme plays like, well, a guy who's trying to throw games to appease his son's kidnappers."
I am starting to worry that we are gonna keep Clemens and our best hope is that Ainge beats him out for the 2nd spot. If we were not playing the Bucs last year, we never would have won a game with Clemens behind center. They have to know that. Forget mentoring, we need someone who can win us games if Sanchez goes down. Right now, we dont have that QB
Tanny said in a presser in the end of the season that they wanted to keep Clemens because of the great relationship he has with Sanchez. This actually make sense since there are few veteran QB's out there who are as classy as Pennington and a pal he can trust might be more helpful for Sanchez than a vet as mentor who also happens to be an asshole.
What is this play time after school? Clemens is a piece of crap and Rex showed he knows that based on the game plane against the Bucs. Last year was the time to get a veteran like Chad to mentor the rookie. This year is the time to get someone who could win us games against good teams if Mark can not play. I stick up for Mr. T and coach on everything they have done so far, but if that piece of crap, Clemens is on my team as the # 2 on Opening day, then we are not all about winning. I would take anyone, anyone over Clemens and I am the idiot that wanted him to start and ragged on the Jets for drafting Sanchez.
Again, right now Clemens is our only other guy on the team with any experience and he's been in the offense for four years. If we can upgrade that situation I'm sure we will but to just cut him now makes no sense, it creates another hole. Like you said, the purpose is to be able to win a few games with your backup if you have to, people are making way too big a deal over the mentoring thing. It's a nice by-product if a situation lends itself but not the reason you go get a guy.
I think his knowledge and his leadership skills would benefit Sanchez. If he actually had to get into a game, we would be in a shitload of trouble.
Garcia wants to start, I think that's why we did not sign him last year. we need someone that understands the roll and can play if needed. Clemens has 1 of 2 right
Yeah, it would be nice but hopefully it's a non-factor. On some of our best teams the backup QB has been irrelevant, Pat Ryan in the early 80s, Glenn Foley in 1998, Quincy Carter in 2004. I guess if Carter was a viable option (ie not on a crack binge) in 04 he might have come into play but I doubt it.
I'd be cool with Clemens at #2 for another year... just as long as we don't have 4 QBs on the active roster AGAIN!!!
