If we did absolutely nothing except change the QB and return an healthy Holmes and Revis next year we'd win 9 games. A few minor tweaks at LB and OL could get us to 10 or 11 wins. People can say everything they want about how bad this roster is. I'm not buying it. We have 33 giveaways this season. Thirty-freakin'-Three!! The only teams worse than us are Philly and KC with 34. If we take care of the damn ball we can play with anyone ... and 90% of that is on Sanchez. Lose him, and watch how fast the problem disappears. An OC who has a clue wouldn't hurt either.
I think they are a ways off. They have some nice pieces on defense, with Wilkerson, Coples, and Revis, but they need a whole new set of LB's. They have huge holes at QB, RB, and WR. They still need a really good blocking TE to go with adequate pass catching TE Keller. While the OL is better than I thought they'd be, they still have at least 2 spots to upgrade. The cap won't be their friend next year. I think if they do everything right to rebuild, they can be a .500 team next year and contend the following year.
If they can be competitive within 2 years, that would be a major feat. Next year is all but shot in my opinion. I can't see how they can dramatically improve this team with the cap issues they have and the amount of personnel changes they need to make. If they do things right 2014 should be the year you start to see some glimmer of hope.
The Jets are very far away...Until they blow this mess up and start over again, it ain't happening...Start with the QB situation, then throw in the LB's, can we keep Landry & Bell?, we have no true RB, we have an average (at best) TE in Cumberland, Keller cannot stay on the field and, this year, did nothing to warrant a new contract...The coach sounds like a beaten man, talking out of both sides of his mouth, the GM has been awful in evaluating talent and this supposed "cap guru" has the Jets in a big hole...It's the Jets, they will always disappoint!!!...
No, you shoot to win each game you play. You can say any team in the league is one elite QB from contending. 2-4 years and we're contending for Super Bowl? How do you figure that?!?!?!? Our good veterans will be older, more banged up, and our youngin's are not developing fast enough under Rex. We have a ton of holes to fill and so far Rex hasn't shown he has a clue when it comes to finding young talent. These past 4 years have been a waste getting good young talent through the draft. That should be our backbone to a having a good team. Maybe Wilkerson develops into something special, maybe. But that's about it. Who is going to be the GM? Will his plan be the same as Rex's? Will Rex even be here? He's not a good head coach. Also, we will lose some of our other coaches to either retirement, fired, or they just want to go to a different team. So there will be a disruption in the coaching staff even if Rex is kept. Messy roster situation, messy coaching situation, and messy gm situation. Plus we have an owner doing things for show, not for winning football. Hopefully after this years circus, he finally gets a clue. It all starts at the top.
Of course the players and team shoot to win every game but as a fan if you go to every season shooting for 16-0 you are unrealistic. The realistic way each year for us to make the playoffs is the wildcard. The team playing is a different story but what I expect doesn't affect how the team plays an approaches each game. 2-4 years seems possible with clearing the team next year (1) and adding youth. Year 2 is the QB and more youth. Year 3 is developing the QB and in a Cincy situation. Year 4 is a Baltimore scenario where we wait on our QB to jump and either he does or doesn't
I'm of the same opinion. I temper my expectations to be realistic. This team is a number of years away and that prediction is based on if they rid themselves of this circus mentality and do a clean sweep of staff and players. Unfortunately, the more likely scenario is they don't change their ways and float between bad to mediocre like they've been doing for years.
That is more likely. But I'm figuring the most likely way for them to get into contention would be the 2-4 year route, not finding an elite QB. You are correct that the most likely scenario is we stay mediocre even while changing everything
If rex made the change last week. By the looks of it. We would have made the playoff's playing a weak buffalo team next week. That titans game should have been a easy game if Mac was starting. So we ARE a playoff team with no QB. I would have loved to make the playoff's because you never know. Rex would not activate Mac and now we just have 1 game left.
Even without revis. Our defense is good enough to keep us in every game. All our losses were do to S.T. and offense. We are not far at all.
Without a QB we are many years away, I'll revise my previous post, McElroy looks terrible and will not be given enough starts to see if he ever pans out at all. We're just completely lost at QB, and in this league without a QB you're nothing.
