Having a qb or Okudah there while we are on the clock could be beneficial as well. QB are good trade bait. So is one of the best corners to come out recently. The more good players there the better chance at a trade back and more picks.
I actually want as many QBs available as possible at our pick so the Raiders, Chargers, Jaguars, Panthers, Broncs, etc all get into a bidding war for our pick. But I get the logic. The more QBs/CB's that go, the more lineman we will see available.
Not good (didn't know about the inflatable Santa): https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...cincinnati-bengals-embarking-nfl-tour-sadness The Jets have had the same horrible upper management for years, never building from the ground up (iow, the offensive line up), instead signing too-expensive free agents and focusing on advertising "stars". "Leveon Bell will put us over the top!", but what good is any running back without an o-line to open holes? What good is a 1st round QB if he is continually drilled into the ground? A real rebuild will mean a few more years of bad/mediocre teams, but there is no other way. Unfortunately, even that will never happen with this ownership. Ron
Would you really be shocked if the Jets took a CB - yet another BPA, "Can't miss" defensive player" - with their first pick? As angry as that would make me, I wouldn't be surprised. And for those who think doing this would make sense, please, go back and watch your stash of the Bears SB run, and dream how the Jets could do that too! The reality is that it's the offense that's in desperate need of upgrading after years - decades - of neglect. The Jets have to get absolute maximum impact from every draft pick this year, and while adding even a great CB would improve things, it would not improve things as much as a stud OL, WR, or pass rusher. I cannot imagine that wherever the Jets wind up taking their first pick, that if a CB is there, that an OL, WR, or pass rusher that would have a bigger impact would not also be available. Passing up one of those for a CB would be the textbook definition of SOJs and they would deserve the scorn of everyone as they continue to be mired in losing.
The problem is that we have such a hole at least 1 of the corner positions, it is probably the one position I can understand them going over offensive line. Assuming Austin continues to play like this and they re-sign Poole in the slot, do you trust Hairston and/or Maulett to be our 3rd guy? I think this is better addressed in free agency or in the middle rounds of the draft but if they got a good shut down corner in the first I would be okay as long as they are able to successfully address the offensive line later in the draft.
I disagree. I could see wr1 or edge before cb1... there are tons of corners that could be signed in free agency. Some not so big names but former 1st/2nd rounders in Alexander and Waynes from Minnesota. Peters, Roby, and Darby could be decent. You never find much in the way of good o line or pass rush in free agency. And Wr isn't exactly great this year.
Well ideally we would get those positions but I am speaking out specifically if there were a cornerback that is head and shoulders the best pick for us. In a vacuum, I would prioritize OL, pass rush, corner, receiver in that order. The dilemma is what if we see an elite receiver or an elite cornerback when we should probably take the offensive linemen we need so badly?
I think you draft the best player available that plays a position of need with a focus on offense. If we are on the clock and anyone but Thomas is there I would trade back. I really like Lamb but i think 3 picks would benefit more than him. I'm not as much a Jeudy fan but same for him. Unless some weird thing happens and Chase Young falls to us I don't even think about defense. I like Okudah a lot but I think a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd out weigh his usefulness
I wouldn't be okay with it. I'm not saying they shouldn't get another CB in the draft, but not using their first pick on one. Your premise is that if they don't take a "shut down corner" (and can you REALLY predict with certainty that even a #1 pick would be that?), then they;re going to have to go with the guys they currently have, which is not true. If Douglas has ANY competence - and if he doesn't nothing else matters - he will upgrade the CB position above what it is. In short, taking a CB with the first pick would smack of BPA and a lack of understanding of what this team needs.
Under normal circumstances(when are they EVER normal for Jets?)Derrick Brown is not a player I’d pass on. Hes better than every one of the Jets first round DL over the last decade.Instead he’ll likely go to Miami or NYG
We often agree, and I usually defer to your much greater knowledge of prospects Kurt, but not this time. If the Jets don't draft a DL for the next decade it would be okay with me, ESPECIALLY as long as they insist on playing a 4-3 defense. I believe I would immediately end my career as a Jets fan if they took a DL this year.
LOL no no.Id be furious if they took another DL. Im saying its ironic that theyve wasted so many picks at the spot & this kid is better than every one of them. Premium DL prospects quite often get tabbed w “dont pass on him”..this kid is actually legit within that distinction
This site might crash if we take him. I'm confident that there will be a very good prospect at a position of need when we pick.
I think I would vomit in my mouth and be depressed for weeks if a CB was taken as our first pick Douglas would never be that clueless or heartless not to build from the trenches and get that OL in place already for Gods sake As I posted before , just follow Buffalos lead and spent $ on FA linemen mixed in with kids you Draft Landing in the Playoffs twice in 3 years sits well with me smh 8xs At 4 o'clock today I hope Brady Belichek and the Pats get the shock of their lives being knocked off AFC East
Yes, I would be shocked. Douglas is supposedly highly-respected around the NFL and he worked with Ozzie Newsome and then with the Eagles. If he took a CB with our first pick, he would prove to be just as fucking stupid and inept as Mac or Idzik were. I would also be shocked since we finally have a HC that's an offensive coach, and supposedly, Gase and Douglas will work togerther. I have more trust and faith in him than that, but I tell you what, if the first pick is a defensive player, any defensive player except Chase Young, I'm done with this team, and I wouldn't be happy with Chase Young, but I'd at least understand it. Our first round pick better be on an offensive player, and our second round pick should be too, but I might could live with an edge rusher or CB there, as long as both 3rd round picks and our 4th were all used on offense. I'm sick of the focus on defense. The focus better be on building an NFL level offense. If not, then this team can fuck itself.
I would be able to understand it and wouldn't tolerate it. There is absolutely zero justification for taking a CB with our #1 pick. I don't care if Okudah is another Deion Sanders. Something like 9 of our last 11 1st round picks were used on D. Our offense is a joke. We need 5 new OL, a #1 WR, another WR and a RB. A CB is not going to help Sam develop. It won't matter how great our D is if Sam doesn't develop or sustains a major injury, because we then will be starting over. Once the best GMs think they have their potential FQB in place, they build the OL to protect him and surround him with receiving talent. If Douglas doesn't do that, he's a fucking dumbass and he can join Mac, Idzik and the other clueless bastards who have been Jets GMs in hell. Protecting Sam and surrounding him with talent so he can develop are the only priority for this offseason. Nothing else matters. There's no way CB or edge rusher should be prioritized over WR. While our CBs may be worse than our WRs, that doesn't matter. We're trying to develop Sam into a FQB, and to do that, we need to give him quality WRs to throw the ball to. 100 times out of 100 I'd rather have Hairston or Maulet as the 3rd starting CB next season over Vyncint Smith (or even Demaryius Thomas if we re-sign him) as the 3rd WR to Robbie Anderson and Jamison Crowder. Sam needs a tall target who can win 50-50 balls, who can be a dominant WR and get open. Just any old schlub will not do. We can address the edge rusher position and CB position (if it isn't addressed in FA), the following offseason. Right now we have to protect and develop Sam, or we'll be starting from scratch again anyway and the D won't be that much help regardless of how good they are. Jets' drafts over the last 10 years have been heavily balanced in favor of the D. The only way to get some sort of balance on the team is to prioritize the offense for the next several offseasons. We won't get balance if we pretend we're starting from scratch and try to balance both in the draft now. Once we get some actual talent on the offense that threatens other teams and don't have to worry about Sam getting killed, then we can start focusing on having balance in the drafts.
