I grew up down the block from Shea Stadium in Flushing. The parking lot was always unlocked back in those days, So my friends and I were always there. I even learned how to drive in that parking lot. I met all the Jets and Mets players as they pulled up the back gates by the apple. It was a much different time back then.
Jets don't have national influence like Patriots, Steelers or Packers. I have never met any Jets fan in California. I became a Jets fan because Tebow joined the team. This is an entertaining franchise. Lots of WTF moments, lots of fun.
What? Nobody else was held hostage with a gun to the head or knife on the throat, and told that you cannot escape alive unless you become a Jets fan? I didn't know there was another way to become a Jets fan.
Wayne Chrebet...born and raised in LA, but as an elementary school kid I connected to Chrebet's gritty style and amazing story and the team has stuck with me years after his departure.
when i was a kid, i heard about a local, young, pro athlete that was so frustrated with his situation that he wrote a book titled, "just give me the damn ball!" i found it absurd yet, at the same damn time, hilarious ... been rooting for keyshawn and the jets ever since
When I was a kid in the 80s, my grandmother had a Joe Namath puzzle that I'd assemble when I was over there. I had no idea who he was at the time, but I think that led me to eventually picking the Jets over the Giants for my local team. For a while I kinda watched and rooted for both, but eventually settled with the Jets.
When i was a kid, i played Madden 98 on the original Playstation and i played with the Jets and won. Been a Jets fan ever since lol I didn't seriously get into them though until that year when they started 0-5, then Chad Pennington got to start and they won the AFC East. I think that was 2002
i started watching football when i was 12 (migrated to the states when i was 10) and started following the jets b/c green's my favorite color and only had local stations so mostly saw giants and jets play
Yeah that was the 2002 season, but they started out 1-4/2-5 before winning 7 of 9 and winning the AFC East in a three way tie breaker with Miami and New England.....that was a GREAT season.....too bad it ended in Oakland for second straight time Sent from my LG-P999
I started getting in to the sport about 10 weeks into the 2002 season and was enamoured with Chad Pennington's story and his connection with Coles that year. Got hooked before I realised what I'd got myself into.
It was Namath. Everyone wore black shoes, Joe's were white. He dated so many women, drank scotch, and won games. Throw in that arm, and the rest was history. I really had no idea at the time, the curse that would follow. That being said, I'll die a Jets fan.
Being from Alabama and a die-hard UA fan... I became a Jet fan when they drafted Joe Willie Namath. Been stuck with the Jet's ever since and am not about to jump ship anytime soon.:jets:
I was an impressionable 8 year old when the Jets won Super Bowl III. Got caught up in the Joe Namath boom, and have been a diehard Jets fan ever since. Through thick and thin, I have rooted for this team for 44 years. Those years of 1968 through 1970 were great years to be a fan of the Mets, Jets, and Knicks. It really captured my sports fandom, and it has made me a fan of those teams for life.
Mark Gastineau's sack dance. I'm ashamed to admit it but when I was a kid I really enjoyed how happy he looked after sacking the QB. I'd try to imitate the same lame dances at home when watching Jets games. That way it felt like both of us sacked the QB. My family caught me a few times and mad fun of me so I stopped  So I just kept watching Jets games and looking forward to Gastineau sacks. Took me a few years to look at that team objectively and admit Klecko was the better player.
