Revis' intention was to hold out for all of training camp and preseason and then sign the Jets' best offer on Labor Day. Period. There was no miracle at the zero hour; it was a calculated move that neither backfired nor succeeded. Iggy took a lot of shit from the trolls, but he had his mind right through the entire fiasco that was the "Darrelle Revis Holdout" thread. Soak it in, Ig.
Where were his agents with this negotiation? If they didn't help him get resigned, what will happen with them? Is it confirmed they weren't there?
Why does everybody think they weren't there? Where has that been stated and don't they still have telephones and speaker phones in Florida?
1. U really think Woody needed to release Coles and/or T Rich to get an extra mil for the guaranteed portion? 2. It probably was offered. Maybe the Jets upped the guaranteed portion or at least changed the wording. 3. U think he didn't? 4. Agreed. And I think Jets knew their plans, hence they went there on the last weekend before kickoff to see if they were right. The had a plan in mind, but Tanny was never sure how accurate his guess would be as far as knowing Revis' secret deadline. That's why he made the statement that he was only sure until a couple hours before they actually agreed on the terms. Both parties knew what they were doing. Only difference was, one knew the date while the other party had a good idea of it.
Whats the lesson? Hold your breath till you turn blue and things work out? Light yourself on fire and run around and hope someone throws water on you? Run int a brick wall as fast as you canfor as long as you can remain conscious?
And he gets tons of shit for calling him the best corner in the league. I seriously can't believe people actually think Revis needed Rex to tell him that to realize. Revis was the runner up to DPOY. The one who won just had more highlight plays. He also gave up tons of TDs.
Not sure it was just guaranteed money that brought him back. He got a pretty heft raise. He went from 3 years at $21 million all guaranteed to 4 years at $46 million with 32 million guaranteed. What Revis got was $11 million more guaranteed plus $25 million for extending his contract one more year. I have not seen any word on how much of that money is upfront money. But $25 million for 1 year is a pretty good reason to come back and from his standpoint made his holdout worthwhile. But I think both sides can claim victory. Revis got a lot of money for one more year, the Jets did not have to extend the deal long term or longer than an extra year and everyone wins as he is back playing without missing any real games.
Sending Rex? How about Rex getting involved bcause he was sick of the BS? Every offer the JETS made tried to jerk Revis on the 1 thing he wanted...Guaranteed $$$. They tried to cover it up by saying "We work the Guarantees at the end of the deal".. oh, and allow me to FYP...
question : Revis has made 15 million already and I think he was set to make 20million guaranteed. So what was the problem?
Where are people getting the idea that the guaranteed money was the problem? From what I've read today it sounds like the 10/120 deal had more guaranteed money. I haven't read much of what came out over the weekend though. I'm very interested in the actual structure of this deal, particularly to see if it protects the Jets from Revis deciding he wants more money again 2 years from now.
Great it maybe had 8-10 mill more for a 10 year deal but he gets 32 for 4 years then he can get his huge contract next go around when he will have all the leverage like Nnamdi did.
From reports of previous offers Revis got the same amount of guaranteed money in 4 years that was offered in 10. So when this 4 years is up if he keeps his play close to the same he'll get another huge contract. I think it is great for both sides. Why I think it's great is say in year 4 Revis shows signs of slowing or some other new names are the tops in the league. We can offer a decent contract and Revis will want to retire a Jet at that point.
Precisely. Tannenbaum even referred to it as an "intermediate step" in making Revis a Jet for life. In other words the win for Revis is he'll be back at the negotiating table to strike another huge deal in a few years when he's still on the right side of 30. Of course given he stays healthy and continues to perform at an elite level.
