For his first start... fairly good. That one play was pretty much unstoppable. As far as bull rushes go, Ngata is probably the number one guy in the league you don't want to face one on one.
I'm with ya on this. Anyplay were Nagata gets one on one is a poorly called blocking assignment IMO. He's a younger, healthy version of Jenkins.
Slauson got beat by a player who has been called the most athletically gifted DT in football. I think he needs to be cut a little slack on that play
Your crazy if you didn't expect Ngata to best him at some point. I'm thrilled it only happened once to be honest.
To add to this: I know he's not an LG, but anyone see Trent Williams on Sunday Night Football? Yea, it could always be worse...Slauson was fine.
FWIW in Rex's presser he said that aside from that one play he thought Slauson played pretty well - his tone of voice sounded like he was impressed.
I didn't think that he was so bad. He wasn't a turnstyle ala Adrian Clark, or penalty machine (think early Brandon Moore) so things could certainly have been worse, right?
As long as he doesn't let Wilfork through to piledrive Sanchez the way he did to Clemens then we'll be alright.
For sure. For his first game of the season against one of the best defenses, I was pleased with his performance. Hell, Woody and DBrick had some issues during the game. The way Ngata came through on that one play, I think a double team effort might have only bought Sanchez a 1/2 second more.
I don't know if you noticed but the Ravens OC made adjustments to counter our blitzes, he went to 2 or 3 tight end formations and threw at our rookie on man coverage. If you noticed we went to more zone in the second half with occasional blitzes and it worked just as well. In regards to Slausome, give him a couple of games and Callahan will have the running game in good shape.
A small bump but I just wanted to point out that on that 20 yard run by Brad Smith,Slauson put his guy to ground really early and that's why it looked like Smith had a massive hole.It was easy to miss but Slauson broke that play imo. I've only watched the first 3 quarters but he looked good run blocking. He could of done a better job on the old faneca play (LG pull) but so far so good. I also feel that the 2nd DBrick call was very tacky,he had his jersey for the briefest of seconds, let go and resumed a legal block. It wasn't as if he got beat,he just got a bit of jersey while blocking. The whole line has looked decent so far,Woody gave up a pressure at one point and has looked the shakiest out of all the linemen.
Slauson played a good game... almost a very good game if not for that one play. I'm not worried about Slauson at all. On the very first play from scrimmage he knocked his man 5 yards down the field. He can't pull as well as Faneca, but in every other aspect he is an improvement... straight line blocking, pass blocking and disciplined... no off sides, no holding calls. That is pretty freakin good against a front 7 like the Ravens. Woody is a different story. Now him I am worried about.
