Oh yeah, ----- for another team. With long-term production & leadership. That did us a $hitload of good. So even when he gets the draft pick right, - he gets a complete pass for doing nothing w/the guy except for putting him on Special Teams. Great job. Kinda like when Brady deservedly laughed out loud at NYJ when they put Danny Woodhead on the PS.
Let none of us forget the Jets had a real offensive coordinator named Dan Henning during the Vinny Parcells years and the Jets haven't had one since.
The Jets need to stop chasing lightning and start building for sustained success. Then we don't have to sit through seasons where we all expect to have the first overall pick without a preseason game having been played. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Dude, you obviously weren't very old during that time, if you were even alive. If you were and were a Jets fan, you'd already know. It would take too long for me to explain it to you, and I don't have the time or inclination. If you really want to know, go do some research. Take a look at the FAs he signed, their ages, what they were paid, and how long they stayed on the team. Here's a link to look at the Jets' rosters each year and their ages: http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/new-york-jets-team-roster?season=1996 Take a look at the drafts Parcells had for the Jets in 1997, 1998 & 1999. Here a link for you to see draft history: http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?season=1997&round=round1#round1 Then look at the moves that Tanny had to make in 2000 and 2001 to get under the cap. Look at the drafts from 2000-2006 and then look at the rosters for those years. It should become glaringly apparent to you.
No, you're just clueless. Yes, he made some good picks, but he made many more bad, and he cost us Peyton or Orlando Pace or Walter Jones, either of the two latter were HOF LTs. Fabini was serviceable.
Jason Fabini, his brother's house got raided by the Federales. Not to go off trail, but who remembers the bar fight at Studio 54? Ken O'Brien walked, and Gastineau paid a fine. Pat Ryan was all Kenny don't go to bars anymore. Bobby Jackson was all they were just defending themselves in self defense. If you're in a bar fight, throw a chair, not a punch. The Jets can't even assault a disco ball correctly.
He didn't he leveraged the cap to bring in a bunch of old vets to make a SB push knowing he wasn't going to be around long. and while he gave us a few good seasons and "left" us in the hands of belichick in reality parcells fucked over the franchise. Our cap sucked and we got rid of every player he brought in (save for martin so kudos for parcells getting martin over here) and belichick left (which gave us 2 first round picks so not all is bad) but we haven't had a good coach since while belichick has won 5 SBs and we still haven't had a QB either. those 4 1st rounders we had that year 1 turned out great (ellis) one was good and netted us mangold (abraham), one was a bust (becht), and one set the franchise back years with injuries and caused us to miss out on brees (pennington) who becuase a HOF QB and won a SB. nothing good outside of martin happened for this franchise from parcells.
You remind me of all the people bitching about the Ken O'Brien pick. Late in round one we got the second best QB this franchise ever had who would have won us a SB in 1985-1986 if the whole team didn't get injured and you guys keep crying about some pot smoking QB that every other team passed on who never won a SB either. You would think that we were the ones that took Todd Blackledge. 1997 Draft grade A Traded down for pro bowl linebacker James Farrior 3rd WR Dedric Ward taken in round three was a key contributor in the 1998 playoff run 4th RB Leon Johnson punt returner and RB depth 7th Starting NT Jason Fergeson had a 13 year NFL career 1998 Draft Grade A+ First round pick went to the New England Patriots for Hall of Fame RB Curtis Martin Third round pick Kevin Williams started six games in the 1998 season and served as a nickel back Fourth round pick Jason Fabini started RT before learning the LT from Jumbo Elliot and taking over as starting LT Sixth round pick Eric Obogu had played 90 games in his career and Madden liked saying his name 1999 Draft Grade A+ First round pick went to the New England Patriots as punishment for stealing HOF coach Bill Parcells Second round pick pro bowl guard Randy Thomas Sixth round pick JP Machado played 69 games in his career and started 15 games for us in 2002 Seventh round pick Ryan Young was our starting RT for more than two years 2000 Draft Grade A+ First round pick Sean "Big Cat" Ellis was a dominant starter here for a decade First round pick John Abraham was a dominant pass rusher and pro bowler used in a trade for Nick Mangold First round pick Chad Pennington was a top five QB in Jets history First round pick Anthony Becht was a dominant blocker Third round pick Laverneous Coles was one of the best WRs we have had since KJ Please show me the post Parcells Jets drafts that are better than these.
There was not much to build. That 1996 1-15 Jets team was perhaps the most talented 1-15 team in NFL history. The problem was coaching. We had Keyshawn-Chrebet-Graham. Adrian Murrell was 1200 yard back. Richie Anderson coming into his own. The solid Webster Slaughter was our #4 receiver. Aaron Glenn, Victor Green, High Douglas...it didn't surprise me at all when they went 9-7 the next year.
Dude you are so effing clueless it's laughable. Grade A and A+s or the 1997-99 drafts. ROFLMAFAO!!!!! Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. SMH
My recollections the 96 team led 10 games at half time while only winning one. It was a very talented team. The legacy from Parcells were 2 things. 1. He changed the culture for the better and we have not had back to back losing seasons since 96. 2. He mortgaged the future and left the Jets in cap hell which was the major reason along with woody owning the team that caused Bellicheck to leave. But it was not your normal cap he'll it lasted until the new can on 2006. Every year the Jets had to push cap money into the future to get under the cap. In 2002 we had to get rid of 6 starters to get under the cap including some very good players. We could not only not sign fas we could not keep our own. Parcells is more good than bad but he left the team in bad shape but with a winning culture which has carried over the last 20 years. He did draft badly, did refuse to agree to draft Manning, and much of his success might be because if Belicheck but he did turn the franchise around and his Keyshawn trade was brilliant and helped restock the team despite the financial woes.
Winning culture?, Jets , Past 20 years? That explains all the Lombardi trophies, Playoff appearances , and winning seasons. Lol. The last things you posted , refusing to draft one of the best QBs of all time who actually wanted to bypass his final year in college to come to the Jets, leaving the franchise in cap hell did not lead to a winning culture. Parcels was a great coach at one time but he failed to Evolve along with the league.
It has been by far the best 20 years in Jet history 3 afc title games 7 playoff wins 20 years of competitive football without consecutive losing seasons. I can recall watching games in the 70s when the highlight of the season was the preseason game against the Giants. The last 20 years have been the best time to be a jet fan. In regards to Parcells yes there are a lot of negatives but we are better because he was here.
You are probably right. But as a Jet fan I'm jaded. It's hard to call the culture around the organization a winning culture. Mediocrity has been our forte coupled by more face plant decisions than I care to remember. The same mentality, restructure vets, spend big in free agency, make a failed push for the Superbowl and then bankrupt , cut everyone , draft poorly and do it all again has to end. I hope this rebuild will change the culture that has surrounded this franchise for too long.
