When Cromartie was cut loose some of us pointed out that there was no proven CB on the roster aside from Revis. The majority liked Marcus Williams, Dexter McDougle, and even Dee Millner but there was a vocal minority that saw the CB position as an accident waiting to happen. Offensive line and right tackle has been discussed at great length but Mangold's injury problems and talk of replacing him are a new development. Forte and Powell are a decent RB rotation. When we were not playing from behind, Forte looked like a warrior out there. With that being said, looking at other teams with guys like Ezekiel Elliot, Melvin Gordon, etc. it is hard not to envy the teams with shiny new assets at the RB position.
It wasn't about the alternatives, it was about wasting $12 million on a one year stop gap when we had gaping holes at other positions. It was also a bad move that went against the youth movement this team sorely needed.
given how close we were last year and his overall play I just dont see that there was a viable alternative and am just glad that they did not fall into a long term deal
Last year we had an easy schedule. This year we lost Snacks, added Forte and brought back almost the same team that failed to make the playoffs last year. Why on Earth would you pay $12 mil to bring Fitz back when the deck was stacked against us to begin with?
They would be better talent if Bowles played them. He can't even make a smooth QB change when the entire stadium, announcers and tri state area knew it had to be done. Macc was forced Bowles let's see who he would pick as a head coach.
Macc ain't coaching that falls on Bowles. He has enough talent to compete but what he's not doing is motivating, managing and winning. I would give Bowles the pin slip and let Macc make the coach choice. Then let Macc have another draft and free agency period. We have tons of money coming off the books and we will have some high picks this year. He can stock this team and get it better. Bowles can't the players have tuned him out and not playing for him. One thing you just cannot have in the NFL is a team not prepared and you have seen that too much this year. That's on Bowles.
