Collection of "assholes?" .....are you serious? No worries, lots of sniping drunks sounding off yesterday, however I seriously doubt you know more about talent than Idzik.
After the game my friend and I were texting back and forth saying what do we do NOW. We both sent text messages at the same time 1st pick in the draft.
I love how too many posters here look at a failed strategy and convince themselves it's actually a great strategy because they fantasize how it will play out down the road in some fairy tale hallucination of genius by the GM. We already know he's failed at some specific choices, like Goodson, getting rid of Slauson and keeping Ducasse, and I would add letting Cromartie go, who has been playing great for the Cards. Which led to the Patterson signing, another failure. Yet despite those failures too many here as an article of faith believe that Idzik knows what he's doing long term. I have a bridge to Brooklyn I would be willing to sell those fellows.
So how long do you want to keep Rex for? No one thinks Idzik is a genius, but if anyone needs to be given a longer leash its Idzik. He has been here for one and a half years, Rex has been her for 6, let Idzik pick his HC and give him 2 more years to put his plan together. Idzik is not mismanaging timeouts, challenging plays that should not be challenged, or turning the ball over in the redzone.
Frankly, the real problem here is the owner. It was Woody who insisted Idzik agree to Ryan's retention, and that no effort would be made to keep Revis. Whether one agrees with those decisions or not, the message is the owner is going to meddle in football decisions. We saw GM candidates pass on the job before it fell to Idzik, and it makes sense the perception of Woody as a problem owner is a factor in the market for potential GM's.
I believe that Idzik was told by Woody to save $$$ because of the lingering PSL problem with the Jets. If anybody has any financial numbers they can share on that, let me know. The only other possibility -- which other teams don't do, because they restructure -- was to save $$$ for our own FAs when we sign them in 2015, like Mo.
I agree that Johnson is the big problem, but he is the owner and he can do what he wants and we fans have to live with it. I think that Idzik has not done a good job. He could have had Cro back at the same price as Patterson. Why didn't he? Because Cro was not his "man" or some such nonsense. Idzik refuses to go after high priced free agents. How would Deshaun Jackson have looked in this offense? Yes, signing Decker was good but is he really a number 1? He dropped two catchable balls yesterday. Your number 1 needs to catch just about everything that comes his way and even some things that don't. Did anyone see the circus catch made by Megatron yesterday? That's what a number 1 does. My biggest question is why is Rex sticking with Vick. Smith is not the ONLY reason we are losing but he is the main reason. If we lose the next 3 which is likely, this season could easily unravel. At this point, I think Rex needs to go with Vick if only to try and save his job.
But WHY would the owner say not spend up to the cap ? We're not asking the guy to take the payroll to $20 MM over the cap to 'go for it' but I thought there were penalties for not spending up to the cap level ? How does a NY team spend $20 MM under ? Either Woody needed the $$$ or Idzik wanted to have cap space to sign guys in 2015 without doing restructurings.
what a waste of a great front 7, by the time they shore up the back 4, we will have wasted a great opportunity. I put this more on Idzik than Rex. You need to keep Rex away from drafting big hitters who get their doors blown off in open space. How many times did Tate just fly by Pryor over the middle yesterday? Pryor is better at picking off his own guys than making open field tackles. If Woody could have swollen his pride and spent a few million (which they have) to bring Revis back or even sign Rodgers-Cromartie, we might be 2-2 and still have a shot at the playoffs. With those crappy-ass corners and Rivers, Manning & Brady waiting in the wings, we're looking at 1-6 or 2-5 (season over).
Big, while I agree that Woody is a meddler, I don't think Woody meddling is the cause for the redzone turnovers, time mismanagement and poor challenges. The problem is not on the defensive side of the ball. I will give Pryor a pass on getting beat in the Detroit game, it's his 4th game as a professional. The problem is with the offense, Every game has been winnable, the offense, in particular Smith, has made one crucial mistake after another when the jets could least afford such a mistake. I'm of the opinion, that if the jets are out of this by the 3/4 way of the season, Woody will let Idzik bring in a HC of his choosing. Then we can finally see the Idzik plan either fail or succeed. And I will be at the frontline, right next to you asking for his head.
He didnt think we could win. he isnt looking to win now. he is looking at building sustaining success in 2015 and beyond. he inherited one of the 2 or 3 least talented teams in football. he knew he wasnt turning around a 6 win mockery of a team in just a year or two. Throwing joke money at average players like rogers-cromartie because your fans think you dont suck is a terrible move, and im glad he didnt make moves like that. he has already improved this team talent wise and cap wise. staying away from bad singings is key for long term success. ina couple year shtis team will be prime to make a run at the division. why sacrafice that to win 9 games this year?
The GM is a bean counter not a football guy. Everyone knew that when he was hired. What more did you expect from a guy that doesn't know football?
I get the frustration over the secondary, but this team's biggest issues, by far, continue to be on the offensive side of the ball. Our red zone inefficiency, our turnovers, and our lack of ability to consistently stretch the field are all bigger flaws right now than our secondary. Our secondary has been 'meh.'
He messed up with Patterson but Milliner and the rookie third rounder are injured which happens in football.
Rex has hand picked three 1st rounders (2CBs/1Safety) since he's been the HC to play the secondary on this defense. If a great defensive mind like him with a handful of 1st rounders can't get the job done, then either the coach sucks or his ability to grade/draft talent sucks. Either way he should be held accountable. Don't let the door hit you in the ass, you worthless, no ball, yes man. I had expected so much more form Rex when he was hired. He wouldn't kiss a ring, but he sure has learned how to kiss ass.
It really is looking more likely than not that Ryan will not be back next year. I am more on board with that than i have been since Ryan seemed to get the most out of the rather less than compelling roster to finish last season at 8-8. But he either does not have a great grasp of the Qb situation, or someone else is making that decision, which frankly is also a reflection on Ryan. After all, what is his track record in dealing with Qb's? I just don't see any reason to think Idzik and whoever his man would be will be any better than Ryan.
This is exactly what I was trying to say earlier. I am OK with not using all of the cap room just because it was there. I think that only the most jaded Jet fan thought we had a prayer of making a real run this year. That being said, Idzik's early success or failure will be determined by how well his draft picks pan out. Right now, that is looking like a serious mixed bag. But is it the talent or the coaching??
