Whether you are 2-2, 1-3 or 3-1, you're still the same team. Keller coming back helps but they need to figure out how to incorporate Tebow into the offense. They have no idea what to do with him.
If you split Sanchez out wide, he's going to get knocked on his ass and then his cover is going to blitz. Realistically speaking, I just don't see how it works. Let's assume we're in a base with 5 linemen, a tight end, 2 WRs, a RB, Tebow, and Sanchez. If you split Sanchez out, you're going to have a corner on each WR, a safety playing bump and run with Sanchez, and a Cover 1 look. That leaves 7 in the box to go against 5 linemen, a tight end, the RB, and Tebow. So theoretically, you have a +1 -- but here's the problem. Sanchez can't block his man. They're just going to squeeze inside and dare you to run it off tackle toward Sanchez's side of the field. You have a +1 advantage of the RB + Tebow going against an OLB, but more often than not, that safety is going to blow the play up in the backfield. And that's assuming you run. If you throw, Tebow is going to have 2 seconds to get rid of it before he's getting leveled by Sanchez's safety.
Just for sake of discussion, what defensive alignment are you going to put up against this: 5 linemen, a tight end, 2 WRs, a RB, Tebow, and Sanchez. Te is at right end of line forming a 6 man front. Powell is to Tebow's right. Sanchez is split out to the far left, say Hill is split out to the far right and Kerley is in right slot.
It's too overloaded on the right. I'd play a Cover 1 with the safety relatively shallow and tell my DE (or OLB) to crash on the running back during the read. If it's a run, let Tebow pull it out and try to navigate all the traffic on the right side. Someone is bound to get off their block. There's not going to be much running room when you've a DE or OLB, 2 corners, a safety, a tight end, and 2 WRs all shoved into that right side of the field. If it's a pass, I've got 3 DBs for 2 WRs in close proximity, and I'm going against a very inaccurate passer. Now if we did the same thing with a WR in Sanchez's place, we could flip Kerley to the slot on the left, and we'd have a permanent +1 advantage in the zone read unless they decide to go Cover 0, in which case they're gambling that our receivers can't beat their men deep and/or beat them to the middle of the field and/or that Tebow can't hit them with the pass. Dangerous gambles, even against Tebow. That's what the Steelers did -- didn't work out too well.
All I have to say to this pray from heaven I wonder what U will be saying this coming Tuesday after the MNF game
Cromartie is just fine, as you noticed nobody is going to throw at him any more. Why on earth would they when they can complete 95% of their passes throwing at Wilson? The bigger issue is offense. The Jets can't salvage this season with a depleted defense and no QB, RB or WRs worthy of starting positions in the NFL.
This season isn't over. Healthy Keller will help, our RB suck - but that is where they need to start incorporating Tebow (to help the run game). NVM, who am I kidding, keep the games close, draft Jarvis Jones next year.
How can they salvage the season? Fire Tannenbaum, cut some of the dead wood, and draft well this coming April. Only thing I can see...
Monday Night will make or break our season prepare to be broken we're not a good franchise, let alone team
Given the early schedule and the fact we were installing a new offense through a spate of training camp injuries 2-3 is where we were most likely to be at the 5 game mark. The augurs for the season are not very good at this point but they never were. If Woody wants to see Tebow we're going to see Tebow. Then the augurs will get worse.
I don't buy this theory that having Tebow on the bench puts pressure on Sanchez and b/c of that he plays badly. All football players have pressure to perform and there is always someone waiting in the wings to take their positions. If Mark is that weak mentally, then he shouldn't be the starting QB anywhere.
We are Jets fans... you think after all the years we would be a little bit tougher than this. we are 2-2 -- We have problems but we can save the season still... look at what Tebow did last year for denver..they made the playoffs and beat the steelers.. Sanchez needs to settle down and get his shit together within the next three games or he should sit his ass on the bench. I think he can and I hope he will. If he doesn't than give Tebow a shot, if that doesn't work try Mcilroy..go with the best option regardless of name, legend or God Status. Our defense better start playing harder plain and simple. We need to get more creative and execute better. Berry might be a bigger help than most people think..the talent is there and Rex does wonders with undrafted free agents.. WRs need to develop..Hill Schilens and Kerley. are all young and have potential...lets try to maxamize it..also Jason Hill is in the same exact boat..I don't mind the signing... Grimes and Mcknight need to be tried out. Grimes could be a hidden gem and Mcknight is hands down our biggest playmaker with the ball in his hands.. have to use him like we did with Tomlinson. Mo Wilkerson and Coples need to start getting to the quaterback..nothing else to say..we need to see actual SACKS-- Demario Davis and Mcintyre should play more if the LBs are under performing. Speed and sure tackling have been missing from our starters. Things can be salvaged buy only if Rex can coach these guys up and light a fire under their asses.
The point of having Tebow on the field is that he's not Chaz Schilens or Stephen Hill who are respectively a bad WR who is injury-prone and a raw rookie. The Jets would have to use him if they put him on the field. Not as a decoy but as a pass-catcher and a runner and a blocker. You know, as an H-back. They'd have the Tebowcat on the field ready to go at all times they just wouldn't use it much they'd be doing other things with him instead. The personnel on the field on a given down would be Sanchez, Tebow, Greene or Powell, Kerley, Keller, Cumberland and Hill or Schilens. Having Hill and Schilens on the field together is useless. They're the same role and neither of them is ready to go right now. Having Greene and Powell on the field together is useless although both of them are a bit more ready to perform. The only guys that it pays to double up with are Sanchez and Tebow on talent grounds and Keller and Cumberland because the Jets have to run the ball successfully while not removing their ability to pass. The Jets have very little talent on the offensive side of the ball this year. They don't have the luxury of not squeezing every drop out of it that they can get.
I see what you're getting at, it's not like I think you're talking crazy. I just don't think it actually works in practice. Like you said, I think we'd just end up using Tebow as an H-back, but he's not an NFL quality H-back.
