You mean trade Cro for Woodley (either 'effectively' or officially) AND sign Aso? Or just do the former and hope Kyle Wilson works out? I think signing Aso will limit our options in free agency because of how much money he would command. There will be decent teams that will be willing to give him big money thinking he'll push their defense over the top.
Might be a great idea ....... . . Assuming the NFL removes salary cap after this season ... which won't happen so your idea is actually terrible. Jets needs a pass rush badly and have Holmes + Edwards as FA this offseason. Cro is much cheaper & good enough to slow down most teams' #2 WR
how about we get a bunch of above average players instead of signing an elite guy with a cool name? i mean sure..fuck sign me up for asomugha, but how about getting somebody who can beat their man one on one? i dont understand the reasoning for having two all time elite cornerbacks on the same team...when that team has a pass rusher whom is 35 years old, and sucks. sign me up for somebody who can fucking win a 1 on 1. edit: im sure tanny will call up aso, and ask how much $$ he wants, and then call cro. if aso is a few mil higher he may dump cro, and do this. who knows. tanny should get aso to sign for vet min, and then have woody meet him under a bridge with a bag of $$$$$
why not champ bailey instead he is old but he is still good and he will wanna be on a contender at his age maybe he signs cheap
a) Bailey is still an elite cornerback, so forget getting him on the cheap. b) Nnnamdi is a younger version of Champ, with much less mileage, so why not grab him as he is hitting his prime. Revis and Nnamdi would be the Haynes-Hayes CB tandem of the new millenium.
Conidering they have a rookie of the year candidate in Devin McCourtney that they will be paying a fraction of what [cant ever spell his name right] will command I doubt the Pats would do this - they rarely pay over the odds which is what someone will be willing to do here.
When the jets signed Cromartie and drafted Kyle Wilson we all thought this pass defense would be legendary. That didn't really work out. Aso is a damn good player but he'll be worth fuck all if this team doesn't significantly improve the pass rush
Champ said he wants to move to safety position to prolong his career. would be a good pickup for the right price
You don't need the 2 best cornerbacks in the league to defend the pass. You need a pass rush to shake the QB. Although if you listen to Hobbes, apparently our pass rush is not a problem.
Per Rotoworld: Former Raiders beat writer David White believes impending free agent Nnamdi Asomugha will end up with the Jets or Packers. "I know him well. ... Mark it down," said White. After playing for the Raiders for eight seasons, White says Asomugha wants to play for a proven winner. White added that the shutdown corner has said he'd like to play for Jets coach Rex Ryan and his best friend is Packers corner Charles Woodson. Asomugha will draw interest from virtually every team in the league as the best defensive player available, but fitting him under the new CBA's salary cap is another story altogether. Told you guys that he's already made enough money and now he wants to win... Aso + Revis would be crazy... hopefully he'll accept a lot less money to come and play for us.
Asomugha could join jets as a free agent.. The Jets sure could use Nmadi Asomugha this week, but they could wind up with the Raiders star cornerback next season. Due to a contract clause, Asomugha will become a restricted free agent and in the past has been open about his desire to join the Jets and pair up with Darrelle Revis. A Bay Area reporter who claims he is close with Asomugha said the three-time Pro Bowl player will sign with either the Jets or Packers. "I know him well. He'll go to Green Bay or NY Jets. Mark it down," San Francisco Chronicle reporter David White wrote on Twitter Sunday night. According to ESPN.com, "Asomugha's deal included a little-known clause that said his contract would void if he didn't achieve his not-likely-to-be-earned incentives in 2010 -- and he didn't." He missed two games with injuries, and the Raiders were better on offense, keeping Asomugha from reaching playing-time incentives. He also fell short of markers for interceptions, fumble recoveries and sacks, the report says. The Raiders can not designate Asomugha as their franchise or transition player but have exclusive negotiating rights until free agency begins. However, the NFL's unsettled labor situation is a complication. Asomugha and Revis discussed playing together when on the AFC team at last year's Pro Bowl and the duo is scheduled to be at that game again, if the Jets and Revis do not make it to the Super Bowl. The Jets face the Patriots on Sunday in a second-round playoff game. "Me and Revis have been talking to Rex (Ryan) to try to do something," Asomugha said last February. "You may see us in the future. There's a little bit of talk going on." Antonio Cromartie, who starts at cornerback for the Jets opposite Revis, also is scheduled to become a free agent. Asomugha earned $28.5 million in the first two season of the three-year, $45.3 million deal. Revis signed through 2014 after ending his holdout prior to this season.
