In my opinion he will never be a quality back...I don't get why people say he runs hard becasue everytime i see him he gets stuffed up in the hole and goes nowhere. Did he ever break a long run last year? he also got those yards tonight vs the 3rd string D...lets not forget that if we are talking about running behind the 2nd string line.
The plan was to win a SB last year with a 33 year old back no TE and no OL and a QB coming back from a horrible injury. How did that plan work out?
So I take it your plan was to pay Jordan a huge deal and discard the reigning rushing champion? If you wanted the Jets to sign Jordan that's what you're saying.
tons of times ,and your are really not comparing the NFL's 4th all time leading rusher vs Cedric Houston are you? That would just be silly
Houston had 81 carries last season. His longest went for 17 yards. Take that for what it's worth. We know- crappy QB, crappy line, the whole thing.
im not at all but Curtis Martin doesnt break many long runs, hes just dependable. He does what he can and doesn't give the ball up, which is why he is shadowed out amongst players like LT, LJ, Edge and so-on
Edgerrin James hasn't had a run of more than 43 yards since 1999. Curtis Martin has had at least five in that same timespan. And that's an actual fact!
how long have you been watching martin, one season? The guy has done everything over his career. his longest runs per season look like this: 49, 57, 70, 60, 50, 55, 47, 35, 56, 25, and 49. The year he got the 25 as a long he won the rushing championship. Houstons NFL long is 17 yards.
I know what you mean about Martin. But, seems to me it is a myth. He does break enough long runs that he doesn't deserve that knock. Larry Johnson's career long run was 49 yards (in a game from last season). Martin had a 49 yard run last year, too.
don't you see what you are doing...you are trying to say Cedric Houston could be a good as Curtis Martin if everythig was the same...well one thing that is not the same is that Hiuston isn't half the player that martin is/was, and he will never be...he is just not that talented. Houston could run behind an all pro O line and he still wouldn't be the player Martin was. The gguy is average at best.
Cakes what it really came down to for me is Martin got the ball way to much and Jordan way to little. At the end of the day Jordan should have either gotten a real chance and he should have been signed prior to his walk year or he should have been traded a year earlier. We made one serious run at a SB in 98 when Martin was one good player among a group of very talented offensive players. We tied so much money into Martin and Pennington that we couldn't afford to put real talent around them. If we won in 98 it would have been worth it but we didn't and we are where we are. Martin will go into the HOF without a ring after playing for a zillion years with a zillion carries. He was a very good, durable very consistent running back who had a shot at two titles, one with NE and one with the Jets when he was surrounded by other great talent. The plan here the last 5 years was to win with Martin carrying the team, it was a bad plan for the team to win a SB.
Now that I agree with. Jordan's carries with the Jets by season were: 39, 84, 46, 93. I wish they had been more like 60, 120, 90, 160. I would agree that the team should have done something with him after the 2003 season. However, what I was talking about in the above posts was the decision faced by the team following the 2004 season. I thought they made the right decision following the 2004 season. We'll agree that it never should have come to that. Something should have been done after the 2003 season.
