I agree that Holmes made a few mistakes, and definitely had a few bad games, but come on. It happens. Watch Sanchez and Holmes in a new system with a fixed offensive line and a decent running game. I'm excited about next year. Can we stop the bickering about our players already. That shit has BEEN in the past. Who said that Holmes quit on the team? Oh I get it, it's the new SOJ catch phrase. He got angry with Sanchez and angry with Hunter, then was benched by Schotty.

I'd hate to think that he did so but if he did then, he sure as hell won't do it now.

If I failed one drug test I would be fired right then. Plus he didn't say fuck off to the meetings to his boss. They where meetings Sanchez had.

Too much negative in the takes on Holmes here, imo. He's no angel either, obviously, but the truth about him is somewhere in the middle.

Let's not forget it's not like Holmes was new to the team this year, and we as Jet fans have just gotten to know him based on this being his first year. And there was very little negative said about him last off season, particularly when the Jets signed him up to his new contract.

The truth is Holmes decided to sign with the Jets in part because he wanted to be with the Jets. He knew the Jets from direct experience. Same Qb, same HC, same OC. Yeah, there were some differences, but not enough to explain what happened.

My own theory is that he had high expectations for the passing game, to adding more of a vertical attack that he would be a big part of. He assumed Burress would draw at least as much attention from opponents as Edwards. He thought Sanchez would step it up and play up to the challenge of more downfield passes. He thought that Hunter would be a good replacement for Woody, and that the OL bench would hold up if any starter went down. He thought the running game would be at least as good as it was in prior years, and that the D would not give up winning scores to opponents late in the game.

Doesn't that sound like the majority sentiment here and among Jet fans leading into the 11 season? Who here could blame Holmes for thinking what most here were thinking?

Now that does not mean it was okay for him to be immature and difficult when things did not turn out as expected. But it should be clear that it is not as if Holmes acted as he did for no reason whatsoever. He had and still has his legitimate grievances, even if he took them and engaged in behavior that was inappropriate.

In short I suggest we have some sense of proportion and fairness here when it comes to Holmes's situation. After all, he's still the most talented skill position player on the team, and is more than likely to be staying wit the team this coming year, and probably after that as well. The Jets need to get him the ball more. Let's keep those factors in mind.
