If you can't win a SB without a top tier QB, explain how Baltimore, the Giants, or Seattle won?

I didn't say it's impossible. I said WE aren't going to... But sure, I'll explain..

Flacco and Eli are their teams respective all time leaders in career wins and touchdowns, They're 3-0 in the Super Bowl, Flacco won the SB MVP award in his appearance and Eli won the MVP in both of his appearances, one of the only qbs to ever win it twice. Flacco is the only QB in NFL history to win a playoff game in his first five seasons. Eli is the only player ever to throw for over 4900 yards and win a Super Bowl in the same year. Wilson was already a two time pro bowler and SB champ by the time his sophomore season was over and is the only QB in the SB era to post a 100+ passer rating his first two seasons.

They are leaders by virtue of being there a long time and being in the most pass-happy era of the NFL. If rushing the ball was all the rage right now, their stats would suck. No other QB has started for the Giants since the drastic change in the NFL. You put Phil Simms in today's game and he probably puts up better numbers. And the Ravens have only existed since 1996 so it's not like Flacco has many people to compete with in that franchise. You just can't straight up compare stats between the eras.

Yes, they are 3-0 in the Super Bowl. But there are more players than just those two guys. And Joe Flacco didn't deserve the MVP when they won. All a QB has to do to become the Super Bowl MVP is not suck and it's automatically them. Boldin played outstanding in that game and made some great grabs that made Flacco look good. Jacoby Jones with his 56 yard catch and 108 yard kickoff return for a TD.

The Pro Bowl is a popularity contest. That's not valid to give someone "top tier" status. Nor is winning a Super Bowl thanks to an elite defense and elite rushing game.

Im not gonna get into this argument, it's a horse that's been beaten to death already. If we had either of those guys for the last decade we have multiple SB wins so gimme a break, they're top tier compared to the butt fumbling bullshit we've had, so get over yourself because the Jets can have a great D but we're not gonna be the 2000 Ravens. I'd rather have a good D and a good franchise QB that can keep us relevant and make a few runs than keep trying to build some mystical greatest of all time defense.

Yup. QB is the #1 most important position, ahead by a mile.

Followed by the offensive line. After that you can fill positions from FA and the middle draft picks.

In today's NFL, your defense is going to give up 20+ points more often than not. The game is designed that way.

If I were GM I would sell the farm year after year until I got the franchise guy, then build around that.

We've seen it over and over. The team fluctuates between 4-12 and 10-6, maybe gets a road playoff game, but eventually the good QB comes along and beats you. It's inevitable.

I still don't get why some people don't understand this.

It's ALL about the QB, everything is secondary. Building that Ravens or Bears defense is nearly impossible -twice in NFL history- and it's not something that can be sustained.

The only way to build a consistent and sustainable winner is to find the QB. A top top tier one and then build the rest. Not that you need to start with the QB and build the rest, not that you ignore the rest of the roster, but it's all about the QB.

You put a top tier QB on this team or on that 2009-2010 team and you have a SB contender that can/could have been sustained.

You can win ONE SB with a mediocre QB and a great defense and ST. But still likely not.

You can win multiple SBs (or contend for them) with a great QB and mediocre defenses and STs.
