Maybe they'll change the team colors to red & white.... Like the NJ Generals... Always liked that uniform
I don't know the entire story about why he moved the team to Giants Stadium, but he said something like 'he didn't like the bathrooms at Shea'. That was the biggest kick in my balls of them all. Losing is one thing. Losing as a second class citizen is another. It starts at the top
And not only moving the New York Jets out of New York but into a stadium named after another football team. (with an assist to Ed "how'm I doin'?" Koch)
That news broke over a year ago. Hess will be an oil exploration company now, no longer in the retail sales biz. They've been selling selling their properties, such as the storage tank land in Bogota NJ. Interesting because in the late 90's Leon's son didn't want involvement with the football team so he could focus on the Hess Mart stores being adding to the service stations. At any rate, who really cares? The family is still richer than any of us, and haven't owned the team in years. I'd rather concern myself with Woody's shennanigans.
Lou Holtz did a hell of a job in college. I am sure it seemed like a good idea at the time. Rich Kotite was already leading the Eagles on a precipitous decline when Leon had to have his "Dees and a Does" kind of a guy to coach his team.
Holtz just didn't like the NFL. He came in a difficult year. Wasn't it Namath's last year with the Jets and Richard Todd's rookie year. And Namath made it difficult for Holtz to bench him even though he wasn't playing well and they wanted to see what Todd could do. Btw the story I read was that he told the Jets he was going to leave at the end of the season. But finish the year out. And it was the Jets who told him that if he was going to quit to leave now.
