+10000 How things have changed When Bowles/Mac were announced in 2015 it seemed to me that duo was the greatest thing since sliced bread..now its Dumb and Dumber lol Plus the funky owner sets it up so BOTH report to him...not good. Maybe this is why left hand doesn't know what right is doing haha Bowles ignores how to play offense but his def designs with KC make absolutely no sense either..as you point out Mac comes across as a clueless yes man...he just listens to the HC no matter how absurd the thinking SMH
The FA period comes before the college kids pro workout days. I'm sure there are a list of players they'll meet with at their pro-day but why tip hands at the combine other than obvious positions of need? It's smoke and mirror time in the front offices, I just hope Mac is up to the task.
I don't think they've regressed at all. The difference is that Fitz had a career year in 2015 and he reverted to form in 2016, plus they lost Decker to injury early and B. Marshall quit trying. I don't think Bowles changed much at all. Initially, I thought he had made some adjustments in 2015, but upon further reflection, don't see how if that's something you can do one season, that you forget how to the next. Bowles is MUCH worse than Mac. Mac has made some mistakes, but he has also done a lot of good, and we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. We know that the org chart set up is effed up. We also know that who gets Woody's ear affects things. I truly suspect that Bowles (and thus Woody) has had a lot more say in the decisions that have been made than Mac has. I hope that RUJetsfan is correct and that now has changed.
Thank you for acknowledging that Bowles is worse than Mac. Some posters are so caught up in the continuity thing they actually do not care about wins and loses or how they happened . You mention for example that Marshall "quit trying" let me ask you this ,,do you think he gets away with that on the NE Pats? Bowles has no ability to manage players or a game No he hasn't "changed much at all " NC because he has always been a fraud. Mac on the other hand started off so promising...I recall you and I were the only ones defending him. But other than L Williams Maudlin Burris Mac has very little to hang his hat on His large contracts with Fitz and Revis were all because of Woody and Bowles? Lee and Hackenburg decisions too?? If that's the case he doesn't deserve to be a GM Argue the gang up theory against Mac to a point but hardly a full fledged conspiracy against him Imo Mac has been complicit in the whole mess He has been a big disappointment and he can leave with Bowles
Using CBSSports NFL Draft Prospect list he's #80 overall projected late 2nd to mid 3rd. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2017/C This list is a good starting point to evaluate the prospects of a given player, however you need to look at ESPN's Scouts, Inc ranking and several other sites to get a feel for what the consensus is. This one is a free site so it is easy to start there. You need to be an ESPN subscriber to get the full Scouts, Inc listings. Other sites vary as to pay, free or some other formula.
You're of course welcome, but I've said pretty much since Bowles refused to bench Fitz that he needed to go. We're just gonna have to agree to disagree about Mac. 6 of the 7 players he drafted last year played last year, most saw significant action. In addition to the moves you cited, he got Shell (who more than likely will be our new RT) in the 5th round. I think Lee is going to be a very good, if not great player for us. I think Hack has an excellent chance of developing and being a very good QB for us. Jenkins was a good pick and is already a good player for us. I think Edwards is going to be a good punter for us. He has the strong leg. He just needed to adjust to the NFL, and perhaps needs a different/better STs coach. Peake was great value in the 7th round and has potential. Then he got Anderson, Jalin Marshal and other UDFAs. He added ASJ who is still young, has potential and made more contributions at TE than the other TEs the Jets have had over the last 2-3 years combined. From the 2015 draft, Williams is already the best player we have. Simon is a good player already. Petty has shown some flashes and is developing nicely. Devin Smith is starting to look doubtful, but even he still has a chance. Jarvis Harrison is the only pick that Mac has made so far that the Jets have gotten nothing out of. He also got Brandon Marshall for a 5th round draft pick and Fitz for a 6th. While I didn't like Fitz, Gailey did and Fitz made the most sense for Gailey's offense. I'm sure that at least Gailey, if not both Gailey and Bowles wanted Fitz. At that point, Mac's job was done, and it was up to Gailey and Bowles to get and keep him playing well. As far as Revis goes, I despised him when he was here the first time and was glad we got rid of him. I wouldn't have re-signed him, but it very obvious and abundantly clear that Woody (and probably Bowles as well) wanted Revis back to give some legitimacy to the secondary. It wouldn't have taken a very smart man to see all the holes in the Jets' roster and the lack of depth, or to understand that was because of Idzik's horrible drafts and Tanny's trade ups and bad drafting. I don't think any sharp young GM with half a brain would think that the Jets could have been built into a real contender with Fitz at QB and without a real rebuild. I could be wrong, but think given his choice, the Jets would have started the rebuild more fully in 2015 if he wasn't forced to spend a fortune in FA and if Woody hadn't said that he wanted a winner. Even if am wrong and Mac was directly involved in those decisions, he's done more than enough right to keep his job. Perhaps Mac could have done a better job with his spending spree, but he did try to sign the top two FA OGs that year, who were each in the top 3-5 OGs in the NFL. He couldn't help it if they didn't want to play for the Jets or live on the East Coast. He did sign Carpenter, who was a very good addition to our OL. He's been the best OL for the last 2 years. He also devised the contracts of all those FAs so that he could get rid of them after 2-3 years with little or no cap ramifications. That was very smart. He tried to trade up for Tunsil last year. When Brick quit at the last minute, he scrambled and I think made a good move acquiring Clady. It didn't work out, but again, he got Clady on a cheap contract for his 1st year and Clady would have had to have stayed healthy and played very well to get that money. Mac bought some time with that move. Sometimes that's the best one can do under the circumstances. Another great move Mac made was cutting the DL Jenkins before the deadline and it enabled the Jets to get a 3rd round compensatory pick for Snacks. Further, he's making the right moves now getting rid of older, expensive players and seeking to trade down in the draft to get additional picks. I'm sorry but I think your statement Mac doesn't deserve to be the GM if he did what his boss wanted isn't realistic. When your boss tells you he wants something done and done in a specific way, do you ignore him and just do what you want? Even if it was all Mac's ideas and decisions, I think he still deserves to stay long term as he has made a lot of good moves that you didn't mention.
Good points Things I didn't see him do I don't mind being back on board with him if he can re earn my trust ..like I said I liked him IMO he needs to structure himself away from Bowles and speak up to Woody Not easy but necessary going forward
