100% WRONG....BECAUSE THE FORCE-OUT ON BAKER WAS MUCH MUCH WORSE !! Most of the forceouts involve a guy going ACROSS the endzone or out of the endzone...in this case, Baker's momentum was ACROSS the goal line and forward; in other words, his own momentum was not carrying him anywhere near the sidelines. That is why the 'judgement' here is so flawed -- the 'judgement' was made up because the officials got it so wrong. It's like saying their 'judgement' was that a last-second field goal was wide right even though it splits the uprights. Bottom Line: The officials f***** up the play and then didn't have the guts to admit they were wrong and possibly cost us the game. Instead, we're already getting the Mike Francesca 'Jet fans have no right to complain because their team played so poorly' excuse. Hey...how come when a great team plays shi*** against us and gets a gift, it never goes against THEM with the explanation that THEY didn't deserve to win against US ??????? How come ???? I've been watching this team since 1972 and they've NEVER gotten a call like this (except the Testaverde sneak vs. Seattle which wasn't replay viewable).
I AGREE WITH EVERY WORD YOU WROTE EVERY WORD ... from start to finish, and everywhere in-between I don't even think this was a close force out call ... this was of the "no brainer" variety This call was a SLAM DUNK ... it was why they invented the rule, with plays exactly like this one in mind IMO this was a Gutless hometown call from the word GO And yes, the Francesa's of the world will say we deserved it because we didn't play well ... you nailed that part as well
Wow....images speak louder than words. I really, really hope there is some acknowledgment of this BLUNDER of a call. Originally I wasn't too angry over it, but that picture shows without a shadow of a doubt that we got robbed. FUCK
This is why you have the automatic review inside the final two minutes in each half. That is why the replay booth as well as the on field officials fucked up, because they didn't want to have an Overtime so late in the evening. But since they didn't want to have the review as well as easily reversing the call since Baker WAS FORCED OUT This wasted a wonderful catch as well as possibly forcing overtime in Cleveland. The Jets had a bad game there is no doubt about it, but they found a way to tie the game up and the Refs screwed it up as well. They just wanted to give the poor pathetic Browns team a win. That was disgusting and I bet the refs were getting worried that their dinners were getting cold. The score should have been tied and the Jets on a big momentum.
The Jets played horrible football for 45 minutes, but the defense played inspired football the last 15. THEY GOT THE O THE BALL 3 TIMES ON 3 AND OUTS. The law of averages say you're bound to put it in the endzone one time out of multiple tries. The offense DID, and the cockeyed sidejudge TOOK THAT AWAY FROM THEM, OVER RULING the back judge and the line judge. Even then it would have led to OT, but it feels like I had my pancreas ripped out by a rusty hacksaw when the refs came away from the shortest ref conference on earth with that HORRIBLE call. What you do is call the catch a touchdown on a forceout and THEN go to the review booth to make sure Baker had control/ was going to land inbounds. This garbage has to change, if the NFL is going to have replay, have EVERYTHING challengable/reviewable. If you're going to leave huge game changing decisions like this up to part-time pencilpushers, just let them call balls and strikes already and be done with it.
Thanks for posting that. Now since I saw it, I'll be pissed off. P.S. Whoever made that video did a great job.
I know what you're trying to say, but by that logic a team should never be allowed to come back from a big deficit....so why even play the rest of the game once someone gets a big lead? Maybe the NFL should just institute a "mercy rule" then. I don't care how poorly you've played the whole game, it's the ref's job to make the right calls...and they blew this call. Besides, if the Browns put themselves in a position where one catch could erase their lead, they weren't exactly playing dominant football either.
I was over it after a good night's sleep (didn't even watch the Sunday Night game since I was so bitter). Now I see the pictures.. bitter again.
If we end up missing the playoffs by 1 game I am gonna puke all over again. I don't think I've been this bitter after a bad call in a very very long time.
You know I'm the last person to call someone out for being too negative but this Buttle guy looks like he's gone the way of an rajensen. From the Herm avatar to nonsense like this. There's no way this guy is a Jets fan.
This excerpt from the Bergen Record, Randy Lange ... "The overwhelming consensus," guard Pete Kendall said in the Jets' muted locker room, "is that had Chris not been pushed out, he would've come down inbounds." The consensus began at the top. When Jets owner Woody Johnson greeted his players, as he does after every game, in the Cleveland Browns Stadium tunnel, the officiating crew came off the field at the same time. Johnson, quietly but audibly, said "Bad call" in the direction of the officials. Then turning to his players, he said, "Terrible call."
Great minds think alike. The same thing crossed my mind as I was looking at those shots. Yeah, he's out of position, that's where he is. TBTF
