Sounds like the Jets will hire a defensive coach. 100% chance now. Surprising a little, but I guess there werent many options.
Hi Axel I might be wrong about Quinn but at this point I attribute Cardinals defensive success to Bowles. With Quinn not sure if Seahawks' defensive success is all Quinn or no.
Good move that highlights the uncertainty surrounding Quinn at the moment. If the Jets are picking from a pool of 2 or 3 candidates they want we're much better off.
they might be trying to force Atlanta to pull the trigger and take themselves out of the Quinn competition
Quinn is my first choice, by far. I just have this feeling that Quinn is going to adhere to the logistics of being a HC fairly well. Just from reports circulating of the desires that the guy already has as a HC, he is already implementing a solid plan of action around possible CS possibilities and philosophies. Bowles would be my second choice though, simply because the guy strikes me as a very intelligent mind and a player friendly coach. I don't have anything to go on in terms of what he might bring to the table as a HC, so the unknown hurts my view on him at the moment.
Since we have our GM in place is Casserly and the other guy still helping in the search process? I think we should just let Macagnon do what he wants unless he wants the consultants there.
I've got Quinn and Bowles fairly even as my coaching preference. would be happy with either of them. Bowles has managed to do very good things, despite losing a lot of players (Washington, Dansby, Dockett, etc...) He plays a very aggressive 3-4, which i believe in. been very effective at stuffing the run, as well as confusing QB's who are under constant pressure. Like Rex, he'll absolutely need CB's to maximize his flexibility. on offense, taking a guy like Bowles means having an early crack at available OC's. of course, we need a QB regardless of coach.
This is the big downside to waiting for me. If they wait, the OC class will diminish greatly, and getting someone like Cable as the OC isn't going to cut it. I like what Quinn has done, but does it worry anyone else that Gus Bradley was in this same boat 2 years ago? He went to Jax and polished the turd down there.
The consultants and Woody are going to make the final decision on head coach. Mac will be part of the process now I think.
no doubt waiting is a gamble. could end up losing out on the better OC's, as well as losing out on Quinn after the other top HC candidates have already signed. that would be a disaster. In terms of Quinn to Bradley comparisons, i'm not concerned. Coaches are not magic elixirs. Jax does not have a quality team of players. Neither do we. short of an amazing offseason of talent acquisition, i don't expect us to be good next year. it sucks, but that is the current state of our team, as we embark on yet another rebuild year 1.
So I guess McDermott would be the "plan C" in that case? Have they scheduled an interview with him yet?
He's staying in Dallas. No reason to leave a 11-5 team unless Jerry Jones goes crazy again and doesn't want to pay him.
