Not necessarily. If Rex gets another job and succeeds there, I will be wrong about his getting another HC job this soon and will be wrong about his being successful. Even most of his supporters agree that it was time for him to go. I don't he would have been able to turn things around here because I don't think any decent GM candidate would have touched the job if Woody insisted on keeping Rex again, and none of them would have retained Rex if left alone to make their own choices. Regardless, I wasn't trying to cover my bases.
Is Holmgren still interested in coaching? I'd like that choice over all the above, and over all the candidates we are interviewing.
Anybody know whether Bowles has accepted interview with us? Who really knows, but when I look at him I think he could be the next mike tomlin: Even keeled rising star who maximises whatever talent he's given. The guy went 2-1 as an interim coach for the lowly Jags. Plus what he's done with a depleted AZ defense.
Not sure how I feel about Marrone. We could do worse out of the existing pool of candidates but, generally, doesn't seem to be an exciting prospect of having him as our coach.
None of those guys interest me... I actually think Mike Martz would make Geno's head explode at training camp lol You can add Mike Smith, Doug Marrone and Mike Shanahan to that list... I would actually prefer Quinn or Bowles over any of those guys...
I'd be really happy about getting Kubiak, he does a great job designing running plays and brings a well balanced offensive attack.
Has there been any talk about Mark Helfrich from Oregon? Seems like an interesting candidate - especially if you can figure out a way to land MM.
Tomlin??? He's another Rex. He's definitely not even keeled...the opposite in fact and he doesn't maximize talent at all. And like Rex he allows his team to fall asleep midseason and blow games they shouldn't - our amazing win this year is another example. They should easily have had at least a bye in the playoffs this year with that easy schedule and the way Roethlisberger & Brown have been playing. Tomlin is slightly better than Rex but very similar and Tomlin has had Roethlisberger the whole time. When Roethlisberger declines or rides off in his motorcycle that team will fall apart and look like the Jets have the last few seasons. They have a limited window and are blowing it. I don't know much about Bowles though.
Would be a ballsy hire given his age/lack of experience but also would be really cool. He's innovative but unfortunately the Jets organization hasn't been very innovative.
Its a good mention, but you could make a case that the team he inherited was somewhat Kellys team, if you recall actually Kelly said he was staying in college, swore up and down that he was staying, even came close to signing with the Browns after talking for like a a week, but said he was staying, the out of nowhere signed with the Eagles so a lot of the players who are now sophomores had already committed. Im not saying he cant coach but building an organization like Kelly/Harbaugh did is a lot more difficult than inheriting one like Shaw and Helfrich did. TBH I don't see him jumping out of college just yet, but we will see.
Not to get off topic here but do you think ever in our lifetime we will have other organizations poking around our coaching staff and front office, looking for people to help run their organizations ? I mean we seem to do this more often than we elect presidents,,,,,are we ever going to be one of the model franchises ? Ugh pipe dream right ?
So what if the Jets bring in a new GM, Rex doesn't have a job, and the Jets go out and bring back Rex. Is such a thing even allowed?
You mean firing a guy that deserved to be fired and then forgetting about that and hiring him back 2 weeks later? They could I suppose. As far as I know complete Buffoonery IS allowed in the NFL
only that he's been contacted by a couple teams to see if he has any interest in returning to coaching. it's speculated the Jets could be one of those teams, as Wolf was GM on the Packers when Holmgren was there. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...couple-of-inquiries-about-return-to-coaching/
I wonder who our defensive coordinator is gonna end up being,we should try to keep Thruman if Rex doesn't land another job
