Has Mike Tannenbaum become the best GM for the Jets this quickly?

Kensil was team president, not GM so I didn't include him. In my post I said "true GM". The Jets have also had a "steering committe" run the team for several years. It may be semantics, but then you would need to include guys like Steve Guttman, Pat Hickey, and Leon Hess himself into the equation.

I will say that Tannenbaum is very hard working. IMO, we still need to go deep into the playoffs this year and ultimately at some point in the near future, win a Super Bowl before I will say he is the best. I definitely do like what I see, though.

I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch if I was you. You have to look at the facts first:
    1. A 39 year old QB (nuff-said)
    2. A guy not known to have the best work ethic in or out of the class-room.
    3. A guy that's had no off-season work and is out of shape.
    4. A guy that doesn't know the scheme or players.
5 A guy that clearly wanted to be on another team and had no other choice but to re-retire.
    6. About 4 weeks to get ready for the season.

Not to rain on the party but there are far to many Jet fans that belive this is going to be a home-run. Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact I would put the odds over 50% that this Favre trade will fail badly. All that said however, it was still the right move by the GM for the simple fact that the Jets were not going anywhere with Pennington this season anyway.

I don't see how the trade can fail badly. If Favre is awful we gave up a 4th, if we give up more than that it means we did well. That's worth the shot no matter what happens. The only thing that can really backfire is the residual effect of Chad going to Miami, but you have no control of that once you make the move for Favre and release him.

I'm having trouble deciphering which team you pledge your undying allegiance? I'll pick apart this BS anyway.

Coming of a year where he threw the lowest amount of INTs since 1996 at 38. A year later, he should be ok.
#2 is retarded. He's a HOF with a bad work ethic? Wrong, plus its been documented that he can almost not pay attention in the class room and pick up everything covered. Ask Steve Mariucci.
He's in shape, he didn't sit around all offseason You Lose.
Chemistry comes with time. By week 3 he should be fine.
Do you mean un-retire? Try again.
And yet he's moving along quite well. Its Brett Favre, not your typical QB.

Based on the username Grogan I'd have to guess New England--the username Pencil Neck must have been taken.

The Favre trade is for short term success, and I'll bet the house that while he's under center the Jets will not post a 4-12 season like they did last year. He will improve the passing the game and a biproduct of that is an improved running game, not to mention our improved O-line paving holes and keeping Brett upright.

Grogan..you wouldn't happen to be a disgruntled Packers fan would you? Or better yet, a disgruntled Pats fan who crapped himself August 7th?

The Jets played the way they played because of Pennington and his limitations. It was not the organization's profound desire. They did what they could with what they have. I have said the WR corps is mediocre. I might be proven wrong because of Favre's ability to throw the ball. Defenders will not take the liberties they did with our receivers when Penny was the QB.

How long have you been watching Favre?? 2.He is known for spending more time on his tractor in the off-season then in the training room. 3.The only thing documented about this Hall of Famer, is that he'd rather throw the play book out and just chuck it down field than bother trying to read a defense.
    4. If he's in shape why did he himself say he wasn't in shape? Look I know Jet fans want this to be there dream come true, but the warning signs are all there screaming you in the face, you can ignore them all you like, but they are still there.

    you're embarrassing.

So do you root for cheaters, a rebuilding wasteland, or a team that hasn't seen January since the Clinton administration?

No the jets have improved more than the Pats this off-season, easy thing to do when you only win 4 games and the team your comparing to went 18-1. However thats not the point, and doesn't answer the question.

    I agree with Italian Seafood.

There's no way to criticize these moves, given the state of the NYJs coming into the off-season.

What they will deliver remains to be seen.

We should re-visit these points a year from now.

Was he not one of the most annoying opponents we've ever faced? I hated that guy.

Yes but I guess in the end we only have ourselves to blame since if we could have stopped him he would not be remembered as annoying. But the name made me chuckle as it is a perfect nickname for him
