I don't think we need to move everything away from Sanchez, we just need to be balanced. Look at 3/4 of teams in the playoffs right now, all playing very good defense and have a very good defense. These 3 teams also have a strong running game. There are only a few QB's who can put their team on their back, and even they need help. Look at Drew Brees last year against Seattle, they lost because they coulnd't run the ball. This year they didn't have defense. There are a few QB's that can mask deficiencies, Brees, Rodgers, Brady, Peyton consistently. Besides that, most other teams have to be balanced and conisistent to win, two things we weren't all season. Our problem has been we couldn't be consistent. We know we don't have to hide Sanchez in the playoffs, but we need him and the defense to be more consistent in the regular season. Even two years ago when we went 11-5, we we never showed up and played 4 really good quarters of football in all 3 phases.
I agree more often than not with your posts, but you are simply wrong about Pace. He was playing hurt last year, but this year has been healthy. Why not more sacks? Because basically he had to focus on his role in sealing the edge, particularly when Thomas went down. All statistical analyses show Pace to be an above average OLB, and his salary is very fair for his production. We have to acknowledge that in Ryan's defensive schemes he's never had a great OLB who gets lots of sacks. Ryan uses blitzes from various positions, rather than designating a single OLB to rush the passer from a 3-4 set on passing downs. Focusing on Pace only having 4.5 sacks (really 5, but whatever) leaves out three forced fumbles, an interception, 72 tackles (a very good number for an OLB), and his solid presence all year. It's one thing to wish Pace had more sacks, but we shouldn't ignore his overall contribution to the team. I understand there are cap issues and he's probably past the midpoint in his career, but I expect he will be back this coming season, and I think he deserves to be.
Elite performances go something like 31/41, 410 yards, 5 TD's 0 INT's. Sanchez never had a single game like that.
I can only assume you are really referring to Mark "51 Million Dollars Down the Toilet" Fitzharvard of your losing record Buffalo Bills..... Because every single one of your bullets applies way more to that failure than they do to Sanchez
I don't buy that. One of Stafford's best game as a pro came when he was a rookie. Pretty pedestrian numbers wise, but he was getting the shit kicked out of him on almost every drop back and still threw accurately on time, made the right reads and never stared down the rush. That's elite performance. Of course, looking strictly at the numbers, you'd think he sucked and just dinked and dunked his way through the game, which wasn't the case at all. 57% Comp %, 4.39 YPA, 74 QBR I can also name a few 300+ yard, 3+ TD, 1 or 0 INT games where he was average at best. It ain't all about numbers, especially with young QBs on mediocre to bad teams.
elite performance is IMO bringing your team back late when it matters to win a game you have no business winning. In 2010, for instance, when the Jets were down 10 points to the Lions at Ford Field with time running down in the fourth quarter and the Jets got that 10 to tie and won it in OT no intent to rub it in on a good poster in DisgruntledLionFan but I was at that game and I was pretty much conceding defeat but Mark Sanchez and the Jets weren't
What about T-Sizzle? He is basically an OLB and gets a ton of sacks. I am assuming Pace should be the Suggs of this defense. Pace does have value. But for what his role should be on this team, he is really under-whelming. I did speak too harshly about his game in general. And, while I think he will be back too, it doesnt ignore the fact that your olb's cannot be Pace and Thomas next year. They are too slow, cant get to the qb consistently, and dont make enough plays combined.
Well, that too. It's kinda like the chicken-and-egg thing. It's pretty clear that whatever he's seeing on the field, he's not recognizing/processing it fast enough to be effective, and that's the source of all the rest of his troubles.
Was I bragging on the Bills? No. I was pointing out Sanchez' numerous problems, which have been well documented. Were any of my points not true? As a Bills fan, I've watched more than my share of lousy QBs, too often in person, and way too often wearing Bills uniforms. I know a lousy QB performance when I see one without reading a stat sheet. Sanchez played like a lousy QB most of this season. It's like he hit a wall about the middle of last season (2010) and hasn't improved much. With 50+ starts, he can't hide behind the "young, inexperienced QB" claims of his fandom any longer. This past season (2011), when he should have stepped up, he didn't. In fact, if you watched him play against decent defenses, you'd say he'd regressed.
