Ankle sprains can be extremely painful...it is not easy to run full speed and absorb that kind of impact with a partially torn ankle ligament (because thats what a sprain is). i don't care how tough you are he is going to have a tough time... i expect him to play but not as much as we typically see him play...i think he will come in situationally...
haha ya i mentioned that too, fowler looked lost yesterday. at least westerman had a sack in his first ever game (unlike the ghost.
Until he is not on the field, I bet he plays. Its the playoffs. He is in the Ray Lewis role of our D. He will play.
A couple of you mentioned it already, but why isn't Westerman a candidate to replace Harris? Is he just a back-up to Scott? When Rex laid out the depth (Harris-Fowler-Cummings) I was shocked. I thought this would have been Westy's big chance.
That's the truth as far as I can tell. He comes in as an edge rusher most times. Although I do remember Rex saying in the offseason that JW was learning all LB positions. It's not easy to learn the Mike LB position though, and if he has been devoting time to the OLB position since the season started, I doubt he is even close to being up to speed on it.
sprains are weird.... He could barely walk today and wake up fine tomorrow. The major issue is controlling the swelling and pain, PT the crap out of it till game time. I've had sprains that felt like a break that healed in 2 days. And little nagging ones that stick with you for months. What we do know is Harris is one tough SOB and will be out there even if his leg is falling off and duct taped together. Sucky part is Rex won't risk playing a MLB who has limited lateral mobility and ankle sprains severely limit those type of moves.
Last Updated: 10:18 AM, January 5, 2010 There's a definite concern about the status of Jets linebacker David Harris, who suffered a sprained right ankle late in the first half of Sunday night's game. Harris, who didn't play in the second half of the Jets' 37-0 destruction of the Bengals, is definitely not going to practice today, and there's a legitimate worry that he might not be able to play in Saturday's wild-card rematch against the Bengals. "We'll have to see," coach Rex Ryan said yesterday. "Hopefully, he can play. That would be a huge loss if he can't go. I'm definitely concerned." Harris leads the Jets with 141 total tackles, including 90 solo and four for losses. He has two interceptions and two forced fumbles. I always used to think sprains were pretty gay until I got a bad one; I’ve been fortunate enough to have broken my ankle into enough pieces that it got put back together with an erector set of plates and screws. After that – I would laugh at people whimpering about their big rugged “sprained ankle”…shatter it and then complain. That until I finally sprained my ankle in a drunken fall from an 8 foot deck. Holy shit balls that hurt – having broken a bunch of bones – I was positive it was broken. I even kept drinking to dull the pain and went in to the orthopedic doctor in the morning (that’s my move…fuck the ER – they make you wait 4 hours, e-ray you, refer you to an orthopedist and bill you $1500. When you get to the orthopedist – the first thing he does is x-ray you…don’t waste time in the ER). Well – when he x-rayed that thing and told me it wasn’t broken I almost wanted to punch him for not knowing what he was talking about. That motherfucker hurt like hell for probably a month.
He's lucky it was only a sprain. On the play that Lowery intercepted he came up the middle on a blitz. One guy chipped him, and number 40 (I think) drove his shoulder right at his ankles.
The good thing for Harris is that he will have someone standing there with a hypo full of cortizone any time he feels like getting plowed and climbing a telephone pole.
