He was only there 6 years, being ranked 4 of these. This year was shortened, other than that he only missed rankings ones with 8:5 record. In previous 7 years before him they were only ranked twice, one of these two with same 8:5 record. He improved the program, whether you like to admit it or not. Which QBs he recruited should have done better? The guy developed Smith and Kapernik in NFL, when they actually started doing well, was a QB coach for Raiders, and was a QB himself. I have no reservations trusting him with someone like Fields.
I'm warming up to Handbags, although I doubt he has real interest in the Jets job, and I think he would pull a Saban-esque turn-and-burn if things went south in a couple of years. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for him ever since he did this:
Pennington, Ellis & Abraham..three big-time Jets and Becht was productive Yes I'm for a trade also We could be in a position to get three or as many as four 1st round picks again next year
That doesn't equal one FQB. Not even close, and if all four worked out, it would make it 100x harder to get a FQB.
THIS! The last two times the Jets had a coach with this kind of fire, they went to the AFC title game. Parcells in 98 Rex in 2011 & 2012
Right now I am. I need to watch more film, do more analysis of other prospects especially the other QBs, but believe we need to get our new QB this year if at all possible so the new HC and OC can build the offense around him. Unless something dramatically happens in the next 4 months to change my mind, I expect I still will be for the draft. We need a QB. IMO he is a FQB prospect. I like running QBs and think they are where the NFL is going.
There hasnt been any other news but he has a Jan 11th deadline to sign his extension with Michagan so if somethings gonna happen with this it has to be soon.
when is the last time the Jets had a running QB? Ironically Fitz may be it for the last one since Brad Smith
Maybe I'm misremembering Fitz, but I wouldn't classify him as a running QB and Brad Smith only played QB in that horrible offense that so many teams used to run that I'm now blocking the name out on. Geno Smith was athletica and mobile, but I don't remember him running much, either. I don't think the Jets have ever had a "running" QB ala Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Steve McNair, et al. I think it's high time we have one, and Justin Fields us just the one.
Sort of joking in Fitz. Forgot about Geno., you re right we never had a pure scrambler running QB, kind of my point. I believe Brad Smith is the Jets rushing leader with highest avg yards per carry. He wasn’t used adequately but he sure can lose a shoe and still return a KO for a TD!
https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...tension-with-significant-pay-cut-per-reports/ Complete with pay cut!
He was grossly overpaid before and wasn't getting the same amount. Average NFL salary is 5 mil. He is getting 4 guaranteed in NCAA, and 8 (!!!) if he actually succeeds. That's a great deal.
