Arbitrary numbers do a disservice to individuals, and therefore, the country as a whole. Some people have aged to uselessness well before they are 65 while others will be good thirty years later. Depriving the country of their service is detrimental. It is the duty of the electorate to decide, individually, the competence of the candidates. Supreme Court justices should not be term limited but should be subject to revetting after a specified number of years in office, the problem, as usual, is allowing a partisan Senate to decide such important matters; perhaps a super majority should be required for removal.
Celebrating independence from a monarchy a few days after the president is declared king, is pretty interesting.
Correct. Quincy populated, weird???? They didn't even know one another died. "Jefferson lives. . . ." Kicks pail.
If you're talking about George Washington, he declined. Speaking of which, some years back there was supposed to be a major movie made about Washington, I can't recall now who they were thinking of casting, but it was a total mismatch. My vote was for Kevin McKidd, which would have been so awesome. Fit the bill physically, and especially since Washington was a redhead. Fun fact: Washington did not wear a wig. He wore his hair long in a pony-tail and powdered his hair.
Some people at 100 have more marbles than you and I put together. That doesn't mean that acing crossword puzzles post 90+ means that person should be making executive decisions at the helm of a country. They should be gardening, writing, taking quiet walks, and enjoying a life well earned. I don't see anything wrong with having a set term for serving on the Supreme Court. I don't want this devolving into madness and parsing things to oblivion if that's okay.
Exactly my point. We should not be deprived of having those people as our leaders which a mandatory age limit would dictate based solely on their age. I believe when the minimum age of 35 for a president was put into law those responsible for writing that law no doubt considered a maximum age as well and chose not to carve it in stone.
It’s just this particular generation the baby boomers they can’t let go… so we have these senile old guys with big opinions. I don’t see Gen X or millennials trying to be president/speaker of the house, etc their 80s
It's a fair assumption that they didn't carve a maximum age in stone because life expectancy for men on average was fairly poor. The fact that some of the heavy hitters breached 80 at all is somewhat of an anomaly for the times. They were scholastically and/or conceptually smart af, but none of them were sitting Presidents when they were at an advanced age. Again, it's not age discrimination, it's common sense. At 81, President Biden is not with it. Is it because he's 81? No, but it is and can be a factor. As a counterpoint before you leave this bleaching in the sun, there are exceptions to every rule, including early onset dementia; and if an acting President in their late 40s was very obviously affected, you can't tell me with a straight face that that's not a practical problem concerning the ability to lead let alone drive a car. I'm not going to go any further with this because it's not worth it.
There are several articles out there that call them the Founding Teenagers, lol. As @statjeff22 pointed out, not signers of the Declaration of Independence. Average age of the signers was 44, because you had some oddly older dudes figured in, like polymath Benjamin Franklin (70). Some of those guys had great football names: Elbridge Gerry, Francis Lightfoot Lee, Button Gwinnett. Anyway, I think my husband's nephew's greatest achievement as a teenager was sitting in his room playing an early version of Grand Theft Auto.
When the sole reason for restricting the conduct of adults is based upon their age it is nothing but discrimination.
I thought baby boomers were generally considered being born between 1946 -1964, so Donald Trump fits? Whatever, who really cares.
'John Adams', I got this as a gift for my birthday years ago. It is so great, and so worth the watch.
John Adams and his son, John Quincy never owned slaves. People argue it's only because they lived in the north (I don't buy that). It's still commendable.
We all know the story that George Washington's dentures were made out of wood. They weren't. Tongue in cheek that this is false. They were made out of ivory, metal, and the teeth of other people. This is a wild article: https://www.livescience.com/61919-george-washington-teeth-not-wood.html
What other state besides Texas loses power for weeks for a snowstorm and now entirely loses landline internet statewide? I can't even take cash out or make a transaction at the store, they are turning everyone away without cash. America!
