It's been said that Hack needs to work on his mechanics. The Jets have said they aren't going to even work on them till the offseason so calm down. He can't hit the broad side of a barn right now. It's going to be a while. Maybe even a couple of years before he gets it.

I'm saying if winning matters then Bowles is not picking Hack over Geno. Geno playing like dogshit still gives us the better chance to win over a rookie who has proven he is not yet ready to play in the NFL.

    Common sense says that.

And people who understand the NFL know that.

I know the kids a rookie and needs a couple years to figure this shit out but god damn he looked atrocious out there. I think he hit more guys on the sideline then he did on the actual field...

I'll reserve my opinion on Hack until I see him next season. The kid needs some time to get his feet wet.
Right now Fitz is our QB and we've got a tough season heading our way .

I agree with your comment, but he's still not a proven QB yet. Improving in preseason is one thing. Hell, Geno looked awesome in preseason his second year here. I hope someone steps up so for once in what seems like forever we have franchise QB.

Its just amazing how the Jets invested a 2nd round pick in this kid. Anyone who watched him in college could have told you that hes not an NFL QB.

Take a look at Petty last year in the preseason. He looked like Tom Brady compared to Hackenburg last night, and this season his roster spot is in jeopardy.

By this time next year Hackenburg will be out of the NFL.

They'd have to be brain dead to cut Petty, a top 3 performer in the preaseason. I would probably seriously reconsider my opinion of Macagnan if they did. I wouldn't be surprised if we IRed him or at least put him on the PUP while we sort the rest of the roster out for the first 6 weeks.

Hack getting live action is a good thing. It gives him a mental framework that will make future coaching more real.

Of course there will be many to agree with you, there are always those that want to make snap judgements as well as those that keep hanging on. But the fact is the coaching staff said from the get go that they needed to completely break him down and build him back up. Instead of worrying about a 4th string QB, why not let the staff do what they said needed to be done. Next preseason if he looks as bad, then tear them apart for it.

And no, this does not vindicate James Franklin, he still does suck. He'll never be more than a middling college coach. That's nothing to do with Hack though.

Wait, the #1 pick gets a pass but a late 2nd round pick gets torn apart by you? I should have read further before responding to your previous post.

  17. Local programming has prevented me from watching any live preseason..& I have yet to see the footage from last night. I guess I don't need top wonder if he was really that bad. But you kinda had to know it was coming. We knew going in the guy was a long way away...and those who know the game knew he was likely gonna go out on a lousy note; Most developing rookie QBs do.This is not the end for Hack...least..I HOPE not.

But really...there's another side of me that is absolutely disgusted. My generation of Jet fans has had to sit through Marino, Kelly & fucking cheater boy. Forget the rings & all that other crap. Can we just have a real QB?A legit passing offense not based on "Magic"..a miracle play or playing picture perfect defense?? W/ all that QB's we've drafted...more than ANYONE...we haven't struck gold just once? Not 1 guy got off the bus first day of camp... & could lead the fricking team out of the huddle & down the field?? Patty cakes practically walked INTO their franchise QB.

I'm well aware Hack is a long term project. But how the hell is that supposed to work when A. Fans have wanted to crucify him since OTA's b/c of their precious 2nd round pick. B. Our OL is the worst its been since 201 making it impossible for ANY functional pass protection for the QB's to get any confidence behind C. When has a long term QB project like this ever actually worked?

So what now? Seriously...what the F NOW? I guess we'll stash Petty & Hack away...for another couple years & hope for lightning in a bottle.I'm sure Mac will keep shunning 1st RD prospects for this Ron Wolf churn em & burn em approach. But we all know it never works.Which begs the question:If the NFL is truly a Quarterback driven league....why do we Jet fans even bother at this point??

Goff #1 pick ... 3rd string to start the season. Wentz #2 will be redshirt. This isn't a sprint it's a marathon. Hack could end up being the best. We will have to see what happens next season. He needs more practice reps with the 1s. And not just the sloppy 3rds I'm talking lion shares. The Jets could have stunted his growth

It's not about where you draft these guys, it's the situations you put them in once they are drafted. Hack could've really benefited from more reps in practice. I hope they didn't stunt his growth. No one would've benefited more with extra reps imo cept for Hack.

Next draft fix the lines and give the damn reigns to Hack, if the Jets get burned they get burned. Look at how Dak Prescott looks. He got the majority of reps and he's light years better compared to his college days.

Hack didn't need to be a long term project. He could've been ready next yr

Seems like the experts that said the 2016 draft class had subpar QB's were on the money. Its early, so I'm not saying one couldn't develop (hopefully Hack) but thats the way its looking. Contrast to '15 with Winston and Mariotta.

Guys, the QB we need is on the roster. I believe in Bryce Petty.
