Not trying to be a glass half full guy, but I think tonight was good for Hackenberg. He will only learn from it, and will most likely never play that bad again in any NFL game. This helps him and the coaches gauge where he is at. More importantly he can compare where he is this time next year to tonight. Hopefully a big jump. Anyone giving up on him or calling the pick a waste is obviously clueless.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but I would have improved the tight end position or look for a second cornerback.
I'm not sure if quarterback was the right call in that round.
I agree with many here that have said Mac may have panicked.

They were going to a new city and wanted to make a splash.
It may cost Les Snead his job.
I think Goff will be ok if he's given the right time to learn.

    Fitzgerald? Really?

And what would be the point of putting in a rookie QB who is obviously not ready to play with the big boys? If Geno tanks, then he will tank until Petty can play. Period. Hack is not playing this year even if all of our other QBs all get injured in the same game.

He needs to get rid of that hideous Clark Gable mustache.
It may not improve his play, but he'll look better.

I'm not sure what games you've been watching, because Goff has actually been super inaccurate. Especially for the 1st overall draft selection.

Jared Goff only went 22/49 through 4 preseason games (44.8%).

And I'm not making excuses for Hackenberg but unlike Goff, Hackenberg has been burried behind 3 QB's while only receiving 4th string (limited) reps throughout the entire offseason.

There's a big difference in getting reps behind 3 other QB's (Hack) when compared to getting 2nd string reps behind only 1 other QB (Goff).

So yea. That's a big time excuse for Hackenberg (since you asked for an excuse).

Also, Goff was selected 1st overall when compared to Hackenberg being drafted 51st overall.

And like you stated (above), Goff never worked in an offense under Center. So thank you. For admitting that Goff is even more of a project QB & question mark than that of Hackenberg (who you're complaining about).

How dare the Rams draft a QB with no experience under Center with the 1st overall draft pick?!?

Of course I'm being sarcastic here; especially considering the fact that as a fan I completely understand that you can not write off a draft prospect due to only a couple of preseason scrimmages during only their rookie seasons. You'd be a clueless-tool of a talking head to do so.

You're obviously not familiar how the NFL works.
If Geno sucks...and Petty is still hurt, it's next man up!!!
    Coach em up!!!
Bowles will not stick with Geno if he sucks and he has no options.
    It's Hackenberg.
Just pray it doesn't come to that.

So how quickly would Bowles pull Geno? Would Bowles give him a chance, or pull him right away and prove he's as stupid as Mac?

I don't want to right the kid off.
I watched that game against the Giants and I thought Hackenberg could be a good pro,
The ball comes out of his hand nicely.
But everything was a fastball. The simple drop offs would come too fast. He just needs the experience.
The last two games have not been great for him. Hopefully by the end of the first year and beginning of the second, he will be better,
    I see potential.

Bowles understands his job is on the line.
    He seems very pragmatic.
He'll cut his losses early if he doesn't like what he sees.

Gotcha, just take the whole fucking thing down in a ball of flames and go with Hack right away. Fuck it.

That was a stupid pick and this is coming from someone who was high on Goff early on. He should have been a day two pick.

    Maybe...
It's a lose-lose if it comes down to that.

I was high on Goff too. Obviously he sucks tho. They should've taken Wentz. No brainer.

So you're saying if Geno is ineffective and, say, we go 0-5 but our season can still be saved (let's say the whole afce is tanking) you think Bowles would believe Hackenberg gives us a better chance to win than Geno (who learned the system for a whole year) ?

Sorry, but what you're saying makes no sense.

I think if you listened to some draft pundits, no one thought either Goff nor Wentz were franchise QBs.
But there is so much pressure from the media and fans to have a FRANCHISE quarterback.
I'm not even sure why Philly chose Wentz when they already had Bradford.
As I said I think Rams, knowing the organization was moving to the 2nd largest mdia market, needed to make a splash.
They went with the Pac12 QB from Cal.
I think Goff will be alright, once gets used to the speed of the game.

    I don't think I understand what you're saying.
Let's try this..if Geno is ineffective and both Fitz and Petty are unavailable. I could see Bowles turning to Hackenberg.
After an 0-5 start, what does he have to lose? He's seen the Geno show. Why not make a change?
