I don't really care that much about Hack not playing in the actual games. My post was really just an observation, food for thought type of thing. If they wanna redshirt him thats fine.

but....."getting a bunch of reps and playing in several preseason games isn't going to help him or to help the Jets evaluate him. " Is pure, 100% bullshit. Everyone needs reps, I don't care who you are and what your problems are. I'm not going to believe that nonsense just to feel positive about the situation.

It didn't read to me as just an "observation," but rather an indictment or knock against Bowles.

It isn't BS. You don't have an effing clue what is BS. Just because you have no experience with having to make a major physical change in the way your body does something or teach someone else how to do those things, doesn't mean it isn't true. Believe it or not, I don't care. If you can't see that when someone needs one's throwing mechanics totally overhauled that playing is counterproductive and just further ingraining bad fundamentals and habits, that's your problem.

There's a valid reason why Bowles hasn't played Hack and why he would be "redshirted." He isn't injured. If it wasn't a matter of mechanics and/or his confidence level, why wouldn't Bowles play him?

well since you asked there are zillions of reasons Bowles might not play him. Maybe he's absolutely terrible? who knows.. Maybe they wanna see the other QBs more? idk...

but were talking about practice reps here dude. if its counterproductive for him and his "confidence" to simply take snaps in practice then we are really fucked.

Lol, how do you find out someone can't play before they even play? What a moron.

Christian Hackenberg not making most of opportunities in Jets practice

Slowly but surely, Christian Hackenberg is receiving more playing time in Jets practices.

But with increased action comes more opportunities for mistakes. And Monday's practice was a great example of that for the rookie quarterback.

In five series, including a two-minute drill, Hackenberg tossed two interceptions, both to cornerback Dee Milliner.

The first came on Hackenberg's first series of the day. The second-round pick out of Penn State slung a throw to his right near the sideline that Milliner jumped in front of, tipped and collected for the pick.

One year after major health scare, Jets’ Mauldin must make jump

Then on the final play of practice, after a sluggish two-minute performance from his unit, Hackenberg unleashed a wild throw that sailed over the heads of all his receivers and into the waiting arms of Milliner.

"That's part of the progression," Todd Bowles said of Hackenberg's added reps. "He started seeing them last week toward the end of the week in practice. So we've been giving him more reps in there as time goes by."

Hackenberg wasn't the only quarterback to struggle in Monday's session, though. Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty also threw interceptions, both to rookie linebacker Darron Lee.

Hackenberg has yet to see time in either of the Jets' preseason games. He is almost certainly not going to play against the Giants on Saturday, as it's the Jets' third preseason contest, which typically amounts to a dress rehearsal for the starters.

If Hackenberg does see the first game action of his NFL career this preseason, it would come in Week 4 at the Eagles.

"As a staff, we'll discuss that," Bowles said Sunday when asked if Hackenberg would play in the preseason. "But we're not going to reveal."

Cardale for one was a much better DEVELOPMENTAL prospect than Hackneberg by a wide margin. And he went in the fourth round. I wouldn't have had a problem with taking a developmental qb in round four. But the second round? Once again, fornt offices can put in work and make terrible decisions. AS I said earlier during the thread, I've seen NFL teams that "put in hard work" take Tim Tebow and Johnny Manizel in the first round. They are paid professionals , they will obivously put time and hard work. But putting in hard work does not mean that their process is sound, or that they are even good at evaluating the QB position. I obviously don't know as much as them, but after seeing how bad Hackenberg was his last two seasons, I can't help but laugh at the pick. I'm not going to shrill for a front office that I believe has made a bad decision(and there's strong evidence to suggest they did)...the same things you guys kill Geno for is what Hackenberg struggles with.

If you want to talk about performance, which is really the only thing that matters in sports at the end of the day, then Hack has come up short in that regard so far too. He's looked pretty piss poor in the last couple of days of camp with multiple INT's and less than a 50% comp pct. Posters on here and the Jets can protect him all they want. The bottom line is if you have to completely retool a QB's mechanics at this level then the likelihood of this kid ever panning out are so highly unlikely, not to mention the eye test which rarely fails. Add to that how damn awful he was in college the last two years. Like I said, Mac has done a solid job drafting so far, but he definitely f'd up picking this kid. Petty looks much more promising than this kid and Petty is far from a sure thing starter in the league at this point.

It may end up that Hack is a bust and this was a stupid pick but I really couldn't care less what he does in his red shirt year. This front office needs to find there guy at QB and without a top 10 pick to work with they're being creative taking a guy who they obviously think they can fix. Risky move taking a project with a second round pick, but I can't blame them for trying to find a franchise QB.

Maybe you are being sarcastic. If so, well done.

If not, this is ridiculous. Where is your evidence of this statement? I saw that Gruden program with him and his responses to questions and he was no genius there. Gruden talked him up like he does for everyone but if you see the episode, it was nothing exceptional that he showed in terms of understanding.
