Don't forget that the Steelers cut Johnny Unitas.

It sounds as if our GM actually understands the game of football and/or understands that player development is a process. Just because an IMLB doesn't look like Ray Lewis within his first 2-3 years and/or if a WR doesn't emerge onto the NFL scenes as the next coming of Randy Moss during his 1st rookie season etc etc doesn't mean he should be labeled a "bust" and cut on the spot.

It's called development and patience and unfortunately not many fans within this fan base has patience anymore.

Mac's had three years and the team started this offseason in the exact same spot it was when he got here. No QB, 6th pick, worst roster, and most cap space. Though instead of going on a spending spree this time, he traded up for a QB. Hopefully the new plan works, but he's lucky the Johnsons gave him a do-over.

Wouldn't surprise me if they dealt/cut Bridgewater after training camp. I don't think Mac is done with Hackenberg just yet.

I'm not sure what is left to prove with Hackensack - they gave him most of last season's preseason snaps and he looked absolutely horrible in those opportunities in his second season.
Either the coaching staff is unable to work with him or he's just not cut out for the job.
    Time to cut him loose.

And he should't be done with Hackenberg just yet either. I'm not sure how the kid will work out if given a chance to play but he's only heading into his 3rd season and has not taken a single regular season snap. He may have not played during his 1st two years but that does warrant "bust status" due to the fact that he's been on the bench and stuck in developmental stages.

I would not be upset with Hack on our roster if Bridgewater isn't healthy enough to contribute.

Or. Or. Or. He was drafted in the 2nd round as a developmental project who A.) Was not ready to play as a rookie and B.) Still needed time to DEVELOP as ONLY a 2nd year player.

Petty looked like the real failure out there. Hack on the other hand? Never took a single regular season snap. Hard to consider a QB a BUST after only two seasons of learning without a single snap from under center throughout the regular season.

Mac came in with a win now mandate and was transitioned into rebuild after year 2. This context is required to understand what he's done here and why the team is where it is. You can see the difference in patterns and approach the first two years vs last year through today. He's clearly adaptable and measured in his decision making.

He's done a lot of good even if today's state isn't where we want it to be.

Bolwes said in his presser that Bates was at the Owners meeting with him and Bates has been a big part of the offseason process with him. If there's a clue about what they're thinking and which way they're leaning it might be with Bates

Bates to me is the biggest reason I can see the Jets drafting Mayfield. Mayfields talents align perfectly with the sort of scheme Bates runs. But who knows what they see.

I'll be honest. I read the thread title. Saw the words 'Hackenberg' and 'interesting' next to each other and felt the need to pop in and LOL regardless of the thread's content.

I'd be really surprised if they go into this season with 4 QBs, but with this regime anything is possible. I see no way that they'd go with 5.

If Teddy is healthy, I think they go with McCown, Teddy and the rookie, and Hack goes to the PS if he shows any progress at all. Petty gets cut. If Teddy isn't healthy enough to warrant keeping, then the Jets go with McCown, Rookie and Hack.

As for next year, I think it totally depends upon Teddy's health and how he plays this year. If he winds up starting and plays really well, he might probably be tough to re-sign, although I would hope that he would like it so much here that he'd want to stay. That would also depend upon the rookie. Did he look good in practice and preseason in 2018? Has he developed? Does he look ready to start? I sincerely hope that if Teddy is healthy and plays well or looks very good in practice they are able keep him and go with him, the Rookie and a mid- or low-round draft choice next season.

As far as Mehta's column goes, he easily could have made it all up just to make Mac and the Jets look bad because they won't give him any info. I think both SOJAZ and Since1969 both make good, plausible points, however, and either could be right. I didn't like that Chris Johnson made that announcement. IMO it should have been Mac that made the announcement. The owners should remain behind the scenes and not look to make the back page of the tabloids.
