How Rex doesn't jump off the stage and punch this guy I will never know. Like you said, he wrote the article months ago, just waiting for the right time. I am in a media blackout
I can't understand this argument at all. So what he won some games in Denver, that does not mean he was a capable QB. He was 8-6(?) overall as a starter? Big deal. The only game I can recall that he won with his arm, like a QB should do, was against Pitt in the playoffs. That was more of a fluke then anything though. Blocker is right, if Tebow starts for us, we are doomed.
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1277031-why-the-new-york-jets-are-not-quite-the-circus-you-think-they-are Scot. Ryan Alfieri, wrote this article speaking to idiots like Myers.
Myers is an idiot, no two ways about that. Having said that, this isn't the dumbest thing he's ever written (somehow). If you have the stomach for intense stupidity, read his archives. Some of them are kind of funny. You'll enjoying reading about his doubts on Rex from 3 years ago. I enjoy re-reading his articles from last summer in which he argues that NYC is about to become the Jets' city and there isn't a thing the Giants can do about it. The guy is an idiot and is wrong about pretty much everything. It's probably a good sign that he's sour on your offense, it should finish top 10 because of that.
The way I see it, if Mark has a bad game or two Tebow could possibly start over him, but in his first game when he goes 2 for 8 or like in the playoff game when Brady had more touchdowns than Tebow had completions, everyone will realise that Tebow can't pull shit out of his ass on every team.
Who cares how he wins games as long as he wins them? The only way winning with Tebow is sustainable is with a great defense. That's it. But it's not like the QB was carrying us to the playoffs and to the AFCC. It was largely the defense. Whether Sanchez or Tebow starts, we will not be a high scoring team. We will run the ball, try to control time of possession, and execute late in close games. It's not as if Sanchez is a star right now. If he got hurt, we aren't losing Brady/Manning/Rodgers/Brees. Sanchez is better than Tebow, but until Sanchez takes the next step, he's not irreplaceable. You say he's 8-6 as a starter like it's a terrible thing. He's a backup qb for a reason, of course we would take a step back with him. As would every other team if the QB got hurt. The Jets are also a better team than Denver, and Tebow will likely be better with more experience.
Denver had a better O line, better RB's and better recievers than you do this year. If Tebow starts your in trouble.
Regarding shitty journalism, on First Take this morning, they discussed "the QB competition" and "who will win the job." They introduced an audio clip of Bart Scott (praising Tebow's character and work ethic) by saying that "there are some Jets who think Tebow is their man." It's frustrating that they can get away with this type of false reporting.
Santonio Holmes is better than Decker/DThomas heading into last season. And I don't know how you anyone can say McGahee is clearly better than Greene. If Tebow starts, sure, we are in trouble, but I think we are better suited if our starter gets hurt than most teams. Tebow is unorthodox, but you're telling me we can't win low scoring games with him at QB? Rex wants to win low scoring games with our defense dominating and our offense not turning the ball over. As long as Sanchez or Tebow doesn't turn the ball over that often, the Jets can still win games. It's all about ball control and great defense, no matter who is at quarterback for us.
Exactley! So by this dipshit writers standard were the chargers running a 2 QB system when LT would line up and throw TD's???? Did that fuck up Brees or River's game?? I think not
SO let me get this straight...You would rather have *Clady over Bric? Push at BEST *Beadles over Slauson? Slauson graded out higher WITH one arm *Walton over Thor? Not even close *Hochstein over Moore? Moore is the better guard *Franklin over Hunter? Thsi si the one I will give you (so 1 out of 5) Recievers Decker over Holmes? WHile I think Decker's sucess was preticated last year on his ability to block and get deep, he is in no way as polished as Holmes Thomas over Hill? WHo knows, I liked what Thomas did last year and when healthy he is a similar weapon to Hill. Hill has more upside but Thomas has 2 years under his belt. Bottom line, you are talking out of your ass that Denver had a better line and recievers.
Denver has a good OL. They outplayed our line last season. Based on what they've done now, with Thomas and Decker both stepping up last year, I would prefer that pair for now, but the Jets have intriguing WR options who could step up like Decker and Demaryius did last year.
We just have to see what the Jets come up with. Backup QB is often a wasted roster spot unless your QB gets hurt, I've never understood why the #2 QB isn't always the FG holder in case of a bad snap or a fake. Regarding Tebow, he's a player we can use in different ways and gives us someone who can play if Sanchez gets hurt. Block out all the sideshow nonsense and he can be a valuable player for us, much more than your standard backup QB occupying that roster spot.
Wait, so your offense was a high scoring offense and you guys sucked worse than we did last year. We were on the cusp of the playoffs and your team flamed out like a Pride Festival and you're trying to tell me that "ground and pound" doesn't work? Running the ball will ALWAYS be an integral part of the game no matter what the talking heads or Uncle Roger tell you. Sanchez is good enough to be a starting QB, but WE as fans and all the other skeptical people out there have to let the kid progress and learn. Not every QB is a Manning or a Brady off the bat. It's not a 2 QB system, we're going to be running the wildcat with Tebow. That's all. Same shit you've seen before, he's not going to be running onto the field taking 7 or 8 straight snaps or be swapped in and out every other play. Sanchez will handle everything and Tebow will come in as needed. It IS hack job reporting because it's the start of training camp and these reporters are acting like the season is over after one bad day where it was RAINING during practice. I don't expect to hear praise everyday and I wouldn't want to, but I atleast expect to hear some reports that aren't dripping with this WOE IS US bullcrap the NY media spews constantly. z Luckily you don't have to deal with that crap since your team is practically packing their bags for Toronto as we speak.
Pretty sure the main reason that doesn't usually happen is because the backup QB is getting reps at QB, while the kickers stick together. As a result, when the special teams unit is practicing field goals, the punter is usually free, so it makes sense for him to get reps holding and not take away from QB development time. Exactly. Just so hard to block out the other nonsense. I hear people on the radio say that nowhere else on good teams do they talk about the backup QB...no matter what team Tebow is on, he would draw a ton of attention. If the Patriots signed Tebow, people would be in Patriots camp every day with stories of how they'd use him and how Brady is mentoring him. Since Sanchez still hasn't fully proven himself, it looks like it could possibly be a controversy. But based on the actions AND words of Jets management, Tebow will be the backup. He may be a distraction, but if he weren't here, we'd still be talking about last year's collapse and the unproven RBs and WRs even more than we are. Sanchez is under a microscope with or without Tebow. Tebow is an upgrade at backup QB, he's an upgrade to our offense in that he'll handle the Brad Smith role. Smith was successful in that role, and Tebow is much better suited to both running the ball up the middle with his size and throwing the ball. If they screw around with him on special teams or do other stuff, that's a bonus.
They had a very good run blocking line. They sucked at pass blocking - just ask Orton. Franklin is a large dude but he was a rookie and had the foot speed of a land tortoise. Another OL starter went down with injury with a few games left in the season. RB and WR - you can't be serious. RB - McGahee carried the load and he was about 40% for the last four games or more with a hammy. Brandon Lloyd was their best receiver and he was traded the same week Tebow started. They were so good at WR that Tebow was used a few plays at WR. Decker was decent but he was injured and out most of the latter part of the season. DT's first NFL action was the week Tebow started after they traded Lloyd. The Broncos were the worst team in the NFL in the worst division when Tebow took over. They lost several starters after that. Better than the Jets? Not even close. If the Jets were in that division they would have been in the playoffs easy!
Yeah, pretty much my thoughts on Tebow. I really don't care what is talked about, as long as we win games. It does make sense from a practice point of view having the punter be the holder, I've just always felt the backup QB should be the guy. Teams have done it, most recent one I remember was Romo who kept the job after becoming the starter and had the infamous drop in the playoffs. Pat Ryan for years did it for the Jets.
While I'm inclined to think it was just a down year and guys like Clady will bounce back for them (and having a QB like Manning will cover a lot of warts, with his ability to read a defense and feel the pocket), Denver's OL didn't outplay the Jets' last season in any capacity and was solidly a below average unit. Other than Hunter, who was god awful, our OL wasn't anywhere near as bad as some try to claim it was. It just wasn't as great as it was the previous two seasons and fell more to the solid-ish side, so it "felt" worse than the performance actually was.
Just from memory, it seemed like Denver couldn't make a first down for almost entire games, the D kept it close and Tebow made a few plays at the end of games, like vs us. I don't remember their O-line dominating like they did in the old days when they could throw any RB in there and he'd get 1,000 yards.
