I've been alive for 6, seen 4 live. I'll take that for a collapse every now and then and so would you. The Mets had a colossal choke to end the '98 season and you don't have any Championships to fall back on.
um I have 1986.you know the same year you where a met fan too. you know you had the white mets sweatshirt that said METS 86
I was referring to yuor '98 collapse and no titles around it to show for it. we had the '04 collapse but we had just come off 6 penannts in 8 years and 4 World Championships. I did root for the Mets in the 1986 playoffs but I can't say I have ever worn any Mets clothing. i don't have a hatred for an inferior organization so i was able to root for them w/o a problem. You guys hate the Yanks more than you like the Mets b/c of te inferiority complex you have w/ THE marquee team in all of sports sharing a City w/ your team. By the way, was '86 worth it? all the bad seasons, the choke in '88 and '98, the humiliating defeat to the Yanks in '00, etc... Was it worth it?
Hell yeah it was worth it. Without the 86 Mets I would still be waiting for one of my teams to win a championship.. Its been a long time, I'm ready for another one. The Jets aren't close, the Nets will continue to be just good enough to lose in the playoffs. The Mets are my only hope for the immediate future.
that's my point. If 1 Championship was worth it for all the failures and collapses of the mets then don't you think after seeing 4 and being alive for 6 titles that a collpase was worth it? The '04 ALCS was NOT worse than watching the '89-'91 Yankees.
On a day when the Yankees sweep 5 games from the just decimated by injury Red Sox it still pales in comparison to G.Y.C.
