He won the first Smack-off, and used the publicity to get his own radio show on KNBR. He's somewhat well-known.
what's wrong with espn radio?? i make deliverys during the day sometimes and i just find the shows on espn radio a lot more interesting and entertaining for the most part.....i don't feel like hearing fat ass talking about his mets stories when he was little or how bad of a trade the kazmir one was every single day
i agree. espn radio is so much better then FAN sometimes. its just sad and a little funny how people are in love with mike and the mad dog. Francessa is a joke and i only reason i listen sometimes is because of russo.
I'm in no way in love with Mike and the Mad Dog; I despise their opinions and don't care for them. However, they are also the best in their business, at least in NY. If I'm not mistaken, they're the most listened to midday sports show in NY, regardless of how many people dislike them. They say the right stuff at the right times that usually gets on the listeners nerves - it keeps them listening every day, or at least often. It brings in the revenue from advertisements. I respect them because I want to work in sports radio one day, and love listening to their show. They never say enough to piss off people so they stop listening, but say enough to get a reaction. As far as ESPN Radio goes, I can't stand it. Their talent is annoying. Colin Cowherd is annoying, Stephen A. Smith is unintelligible. Dan Patrick is boring. Michael Kay... HA. Max Kellerman isn't THAT bad, but rather mediocre, in my opinion. Jim Rome is an annoying piece of trash who is arrogant and an idiot who is rarely funny. Mike and Mike in the morning is the only show on ESPN Radio that I could potentially listen to. They're pretty good, but, in my opinion, nothing compared to Mike and the Mad Dog. WFAN has a better lineup because their broadcasters are more designed for NY listeners; they're fans of the local teams, for the most part, and focus on NY sports. I love listening to Steve Somers and his stories of the old NY Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers, especially when he talks with Bill the Baker. A lot of people probably don't like Somers, but I think he is great. Richard Neer is a pretty cool guy who knows his stuff and is one of the most collected guys on the station. Can't say I've listened to Evan Roberts this much as I haven't listened to the radio that much this summer, but he worked well with Beningo last fall after Sid was fired. Joe B. is annoying and I don't like him that much. I love his show with Sid last year, but Sid blew that, which is a real shame. As far as weekend programing goes... WFAN sucks.
you're right that they are the most popular....however i don't think they're the best....all the videos you see on mtv, why do those talentless singers sell so many more cds than other more talented bands? mike and mike on espn radio blow away mike and the mad dog imo....they just "get it" with present day sports issues, and connect with the die hard sports fans better than russo and francessa ever could dream of i really like colin cowherd's show also, why do you find him annoying?
i completely disagree with that statement. Somers is great BTW. Rome is amazing, Kay's show is entertaining because of dom and joey, overall its good and thats coming from a mets fan, i like the heard becuase of the views collin gives and Dan Patrick is horrible. For some reason i love Stephn A and BT. Jody Mac is great on the weekends for espn and they also have steve phillips on saturday. yes M&MD is the best show in NY, but for me its gotten to the point when i can't listen to it because of Francessa. and what time is Somers on? i can never remember.
yup i feel amost the exact same way....stephen a is listenable most of the time, and for some reason is very entertaining with him and bt
Rome is an annoying hack who talks trash about players and then sucks up to them when they are on his show. Although he has mellowed out a bit since Everett put him in his place, I still can't stand him at all. I can never, ever be able to stand Michael Kay because whenever I hear his raspy, annoying voice, my head echos "OH MY! WHAT A PLAY! DEREK JETER, THE YANKEE CAPTAIN! OH MY!" and I want to rip out his vocal cords. I don't know why, Cowherd just rubs me the wrong way. I don't hate him or anything, I'd just prefer not to listen to his show. Stephen A. Smith knows nothing about basketball and talks like a moron, barely speaking English. His racist undertones, the "poor me I'm a black man," is just annoying. I've watched his TV show, too, and it is way more evident there. Just watch when he was with Lawrence Taylor.
thats what makes Stephen A. great. Players should want to be on Rome's show, everytime they come on the next day they have a great game. his show is very diffrent from any show on WFAN or ESPN, thats why many people like it.
I don't bother with ESPN radio. The only radio station I listen to is WFAN. If that doesn't interest me, I put on a CD. I liked it when Francesa was talking about bad hitting pitchers and good hitting pitchers today. I'll post the Herbel stats soon for those that missed the show. The numbers are mindblowing.
Gotta agree with Exit here. Mike and Chris discuss NY sports which is what I care about. I mean Mike and Mike talk about sports in general, which in my opinion is ok, but not exactly what I want to hear. I'll watch them when I wake up, because theres not much on from 6am to 10am, so yeah. Like Exit said though, Mike and Chris are the top radio show during the midday in the state of New York and will always keep you listening. Between Mike being against the Mets fans, and Chris having a hysterical laugh, it's just something that keeps me interested. I know they are biased and everything and I do get mad at them plenty or even most of the time, but I still tune in the next day. The arguments keep sports healthy.

There is no such thing as football season. They talk about freakin' baseball for hours even when the Jets are in the playoffs. "Can't wait until Spring Training, blah blah blah blah...." - and it's g*ddamn January. Are they kidding me?! It's a joke.
