Finally posting my guitar. I actually started out with a cheap Jay Tursor guitar, but after a year of playing I had to upgrade. Traded up to a Gibson Les Paul Studio. Now I just need to get a good amp. Hoping to do that this coming tax season. Using a Line 6 Spider in the meantime.
ditto. I have a Peavey Wolfgang (Eddie Van Halen)....it's a sweet piece of machinery...as soon as i get off my ass...i'll take some pics of it and post them.
Haha... good eye Don. I'm a lefty, which I have found for guitar pretty much sucks. There are almost no LH guitars in the stores around me so when I was shopping for an upgrade so I didn't have many choices. I was looking for a mid-range Epiphone LP... but they had the Gibson model and I said what the hell, I wanna at least play it. I knew I had to buy it after about 2 min of playing it even if the cost was a bit more.
You could always just take an SG and turn it upside down. After redoing the strings, of course. heh. Or the Flying V. Seriously, that is a very legitimate option for lefties. For example while Jimi Hendrix took a right handed Strat and turned it upside down, it's perhaps not widely known trivia that he occasionally played Gibsons. Unsurprisingly the ones he played were SG's and Flying V's. The latter is completely symmetrical, while the SG is almost that. I know the neck is not completely symmetrical, but it's not a big issue. Another famous lefty from the old days was Albert King, who also played the V upside down. Of course old Albert didn't change the strings. Takes all kinds...
I remembered hearing that about Hendrix and considered it, but I asked a couple of different people and they mentioned that the bridge would have to be readjusted in addition to restringing the guitar. Not sure how much of a headache that would be.
Changing the bridge and the nut would be a PITA. After all the physical work, then you'd have to do the intonation again for all 6 strings. Better off paying the extra $100 or so for the custom lefty. They did it back then because they had to.
That is basically what I have been hearing. If I was more clever with doing that sort of stuff on a guitar it would be fun to do I think. I believe I'll have to live with the injustice of crappy choices.
Check back, he had said he finds quite limited selection of left hand guitars. Ftr I am left handed and play right handed, but that's another story. Changing the bridge would take no more than 40 minutes. Intonation a bit longer, but you should probably check it from time to time anyway. I concede the larger issue is changing the nut.
