Great point. I'm actually beginning to rethink my Britt advocacy. I'd rather have Britt than Tyson Jackson or Vontae Davis but I'd rather have Gilbert than all three of them. I definitely wouldn't trade the rest of the draft for Britt. 17th pick? Yes, but there's too much value out there to give up every other pick for Britt.

Do you guys think Gilbert is still rising or has he kind of peaked at end of 1st/top of 2nd?

Great Question, vilmatic, I was wondering the same thing too, but I don't think we'll know the real answer until draft day

If you notice, every year a few players are drafted significantly higher than their consensus projections and a few players are drafted significantly lower than their consensus projections, and its not only because "one team" fell in love with the former, it could be that, that could explain it, but more likely that player just carried a higher grade than most suspected

I still have a feeling Gilbert is one of those guys, but right now if you go by the consensus projections, you would have to say Gilbert has peaked as a late 1 or early 2 ... I think those projections are off, too low, but we won't know till April

I hope he peaks at 17.

  5. I'm not denying what Gilbert accomplished in college, his talent nor his obvious upside. W/ that said I am alittle concerned about what I see on tape concerning him being a 34 DE. He def. has the size, strength and frame to BE successful there.

But on tape all the plays he seems to make, he looks like more of a 1 gap 3 technique guy. He always seems to be shooting gaps and disrupting things rather than what we need in our scheme which his holding strong at the point of attack and maintaining 2 gaps. He could develop into a rare Richard Seymour type capable of being a 2 gap guy who can ALSO be disruptive and rack up 8+ sacks a season due to superior athleticism..but we've heard that w/ other prospects and it never seems to pan out.

I like Gilbert if we trade back afew spots and snag him for depth/upside..but the reasons listed above concern me.

...that's the position he plays at SJSU. He did a damn good job too.

  7. He sure did.

I'm just reluctant about him making a switch to a 5 technique guy. Yes physically he has the tools..but thats a BIG transition to make mentally.

Jabba, tell me why Gilbert isn't the next Brian Thomas because I know you were high on him, and both guys seem like 2nd round guys from mid-level schools who have great workouts, and they rise around draft time. I like what I read about Gilbert, and I know they're different positions, but burn us once, shame on the player, burn us twice, shame on the Jets. I'd have no problem moving down for him, I'm just not convinced he's worth 17.
