I think you can take it to the bank that Gronk's not going to have the same type of statistical season they had last year. But that's not a bad thing. Pats had become far too dependent on their 2 TE's and we saw how bad it was when Gronk got hurt. Their vertical game was practically non-existent last year, and unless Brady plans on completing 99.9% of his passes, it gets to a point where you can't overcome the lack of deep threat. They loaded up on WR's this year, so they're going to get their vertical game back which was sorely missing last year. Gronk could have an even better year last year, but statistically, it's going to eat into his receptions and touchdowns. Pats didn't sign Lloyd as an afterthought. That's not going to make Gronk any less effective though when he steps on that field.
Statistically, any time a player sets any all-time position records in the NFL (in this case TD rec by a TE and rec yards by a TE), the odds that player will match or beat those records in the subsequent year are very slim.
Why does everyone on this forum think that a 6'0" 220lb safety who hasn't play a full season in 3 years is going to knock out a 6'6 265lb TE?
Gronk is a freakish athlete, but the te position had become hybrid for a long time now. I rem the Jets Johnny Johnson was a hybrid te, but now you see Vernon D, saints Graham, A. Gates, A. Gonzalez, Dustin Keller all power forward/WR combo types. Belicheat is def a jerk, not wanting to shake hands after a loss, but wanting to hug and kiss the same coach after a W? Jerk!
Bernard Pollard was able to knock Gronk out in the terms he took him out of the game. Granted Pollard has some ability where he can really mess up the Pats season.
So making the Super Bowl is now considered winning it? Those AFC championship losses hurt even more now, considering winning them meant the Jets would be winners. Straight up trolling here.
LOL. Yes. Can he repeat or just come close to last year? As long as he can continue to be a force and a mismatch problem that will be fine.
Are you talking about just against the Patriots? I could see that. He is basically too good to play safety, and even though he would be the best safety ever, imo, right now he might be the best corner ever.
Really?! You could make that remark about just about any other jet but in no way is Revis a complainer...and it isn't possible to overpay the top defensive athlete. That's my opinion not just as a jet fan but as a football fan.
