I wish he could. He'd be punching them for all of us.

\/ This is a perfect response to this ^
I'm coming around to the Geno camp but for anyone to think that he is better than Sanchez is in la-la land. Geno is the future but let him sit for a while please. Nacho will probably be 3-5 by mid season and you can hand over the reigns then.

I would like to see Simms be groomed as the 3rd stringer. Dump the ginger kid.

Can Olney cover the Jets? Another rare voice of reason

Thanx for the feedback. Just for my own clarification, wasn't it the second string line (according to reports I've read)? I have no intention on debating whether it was stupid to put him in, (IT WAS, as it was the end of the game). It would though,(for the sake of semantics) not be unreasonable to put him behind a second string line though, wouldn't it? Please hear me again, not smart to put him in at the end of the game (read PLAY SIMMS), but he wasn't behind a third string line..., not to mention I've seen lesser late hits called...:)

Geez this team just cannot get themselves out of a paper bag. Didn't see any of the game and haven't posted in a few but its gonna be an interesting season to say the least.

The thing that cracks me up is that the Jets won the game, making Eli Manning look like a rookie QB in the process (8-20 for 83 yards), and the fan base is ready to commit suicide because a rookie QB looked like a rookie QB.

This, BTW, is why I wanted to cut Sanchez so badly. His presence has created a QB controversy that did not need to be there in a rebuilding year. The Jets are going to win in the same range of games with Sanchez or Smith under center this season. In that context having any sizeable percentage of the fan base convinced the other guy should be in there is ridiculous.

The difference between Sanchez and Smith is one of them has failed already and has no upside at this point. That guy should not be around to create a controversy.

And it's obvious that if a QB is on the field with the second tier OL he is not the current starter. IMO it's a poor move to have either Sanchez or smith with anyone other than starters on the field in preseason game 3 - especially with a so called competition taking place. Simms and McElroy should have split snaps with the second and third teams in the second half. That's just what u do.

It's very frustrating to watch a cluster fuk evolve with this team when there should not have been one.

Honestly I think this team being a paperbag team is over exaggeration and media hype. They've only had 4 losing seasons since 97 and 10 winning seasons since then. Are they in a rough stretch right now? Yes but the way the media treats them like a running punchline is rediculous to me. Over the past 10-15 years the jets have been much closer to being labeled a middle of the back to above average team mostly then a running joke, circus and punchline.

Exactly. Sanchez still makes the kind of rookie mistakes Geno made in his first pre season start. At least Geno has a chance to improve. Heck, he threw for 200 yards in 3 quarters. Sanchez has trouble doing that over a whole game.

It's obvious he wasn't cut due to salary but the behind the scenes reasons are woody and Rex - being so tied to Sanchez they could not bare the mistake recognition. Though some would say what mistake?? He was involved in 2 championship runs so what's the problem. All in the eye of the beholder. No doubt it's time to move on and see what smith does. Regardless I do see the jets picking another QB next year, certainly with a higher picker than 39.

Just remember, the NY tabloid media is a circus. It helps them out a lot when the Jets send in the clowns occasionally to supplement that long running act.

The Jets haven't gotten the kind of coverage the Giants do since the 24/7 media world developed. They have people manufacturing stories about the organization that just would not fly if the Giants were the target.

When the Coughlin is probably a goner stories were circulating heavily in 2007(!) during the season the tone of the stories was at least respectful.

What the Jets get instead is a few writers who have a big bone to pick with organization, some of them outright hostile (Mehta), some really cycnical and jaded (Cimini) and some of them who clearly prefer the Giants style but are covering the Jets instead (Myers).

That's not to say that there haven't been decent writers out there covering the Jets (Costello, McManus, Connor) but they're competing in a circus environment in which the most outrageous biased positions possible get taken by certain writers on a regular basis and that drives the coverage in that direction.

Blame Garrard's knee, he would have been gone by now...5th year QB can't beat out a raw rookie...by the way he played the equivalent of one series and had 1 fumble, par for his course

U are right - but for the fans that have been loyal since the 70's/80's - middle of the pack to above average is ultimately not enough. Especially with team history being studded by everything from Lou holtz to mudbowls to belicheck/brady to now, sanchez.

The NY media, back of the post and what have you is something else add on top of that the causal fan of any team regardless of league or state had a short term memory usually.

The circus environment/media coverage metha and cimini are irritating but personally I take them as seriously as I do Chris brossaurd when it comes to basketball. I view them as media with an agenda.

The jets can be labeled a circus and train wreck all day long for all I care and quite frankly I expect them to have a down year this season but I could care less about media exaggeration. In the post kotite era, they've shown some of the most consistency they've had since the Namath years. Hell they haven't had 2 losing seasons in a row since 97. I hope this team plays hard and proves people wrong this year.

The other reason is if the competition was not over. The only reason for Sanchez not to be playing there was if they already decided he won the battle.

I have been arguing this for years now. Since Parcells took over in 1997, the Jets have actually been an above average franchise.

True, as a mets fan I know how It is with a team dissappinting regularly and wearing patience thin. I realize and understand turning things around isn't going to happen overnight. They need to get rid of alot of dead weight while making upgrades. I think we all know what to expect from this season, long term I can tolerate a down year or 2 if its a long term plan at hand to give them sustained success.

Its a different sport but even though the mets suck this year I'm happy with the long term direction their heading in. Although it took a season or 2 to get rid of crap contracts and headcases.

I hope long term idzik is the guy to get this thing turned around.
