Not sure this was on the US commentary or ours. But whoever said it said that they thought who ever was the hotter back in the first half was going to be the back for the second in Schotties scheme. Kind of a competition between the backs during gametime.
No, I don't want to take the ball out of their hands. I think we can have a more effective running game and open up the passing game even more by giving Greene more of a chance. He's got no chance of getting anything going right now. We know what he can do with 20+ carries, but with only getting in every few drives he's not nearly as effective as he could be.
Pretty hard to complain about how things are going with the offense right now. He'll get his chance. Don't fix what's not broke.
He got 10 carries tonight, LT 15. Greene is not getting going well right now, but its ok. He'll be fresh later in the season and as the weather turns cold we will lean on his bulldoze style more. Whats hampering his total touches more is his lack of skill in the passing game. LT adds a completely different element there. He can catch and then is extremely dangerous in space, but is also very adept at picking up a blitz if left in. Greene is not that guy and that will keep him off the feild a lot. Right now the offense is rolling. If its not broke, don't try to fix it.
Maybe so but L.T. has been doing really good. I expect Greene to pick it up and start running people over come the 2nd half of the season as the weather gets colder. He did it last year and it worked for us and he was the biggest asset in the playoffs.
I do think Greene needs more carries. But, the game often determines what Schotty needs to do. When the O line can get first downs, Greene gets better the more cvarries he gets, he's one of those guys.... better with 20 carries than with 10. But, against good run D's, and if like tonoght the opposing offense is moving, it's hard to get him established. When we face lesser run D's, his carries will go up and LT's down.
It's tough to make a case for giving Greene more carries, since I'm pretty sure if LT ever gets 25, he's gonna rush for 150. 25 carries between the two of them today, 15 for LT, 10 for Greene. I'm fine with the splits, but I'd like to see the Jets racking up more like 35 rushes a game. Absent some long Dolphin drives today and one extra short Jets drive, that's likely what we would've ended up with. A generally even split and a policy of feeding the hot hand is perfect, we use both backs, and we wear down neither.
Not at all. LT has been an absolute stud since training camp. He has been averaging 5+ yards per carry. Greene coughed up a couple fumbles in the first game and can't carry LT's jock right now. Greene needs to prove to the coaches in practices and in games that he deserves more carries. If he needs 20+ caries to play his best, that just ain't gonna happen with LT playing this well.
