No. But he also had two near ints, including a near pick 6. If Geno plays like this during the preseason, I say get Vick some first-team reps.
The run defense is going to be beastly this year, same as last. I never know what to take away from Jets practices and scrimmages. The personnel is usually better on the defensive side of the ball and they're letting it all hang out to catch Rex's eye. That said, if Geno isn't successful running the offense at the start of the year the Jets will switch to Vick very quickly is my guess.
I've been getting my hopes up lately about Hill, but come on. That's been his signature catch for the past 2 years. Jump high for a ball that comes in at his stomach, giving no chance for advancing the ball. He was basically giving the defenders an easy tackle. All he had to do was reach his arms out to catch that ball in stride.
Pretty much. He can still be valuable with his size and speed, even if that's how he catches it, but he'd never be a go-to-guy like that.
For the first time I'm really beginning to question RR's position of HC. I didn't attend the scrimmage but went to the last 3 & all were the same crap on offense. We've switched OC's, We've changed assistant coaches, & we've drastically upgraded the overall talent base of this offense yet we still see the same anemic offense year in & year out. At some point it has to fall on Rex. Maybe it's his dismissive attitude rubbing off, maybe it's the aggressive defense in practice not allowing things to get off the ground(no pun intended)who knows. But a passing game should not be this terrible & self defeating in this modern era of football. Not only is it holding this franchise back, it's also unexciting & often times embarrassing. The 2nd team OL can't punch in from the 1 on 4 tries?Really? Looks like it's gonna be another ugly preseason b/c our back-up OL can't block worth shit. And again...we've changed personnel at that spot as well. Many of these guys are highly thought of in the organization & have been in the system for multiple years. There's no excuse. And how does Rex respond to that garbage in his presser?? He calls it "awesome". Way to show your true colors Rex.Maybe you really are just a glorified defensive coordinator. I'm willing to reserve some judgement based on the notion that the defense just had a very good night.Heck the day before the offense supposively won the day & they've see-sawed back & fourth throughout camp. I suppose that's better than the past few years when any completed pass in 11-on-11's caused a fury on twitter. This is an offense built to run the ball & then run play action. By all accounts the jets Run D is elite level..so maybe the lack of a running game just screwed everything up. That said...if mid-way through preseason we haven't put up any points ala 2012 & Rex keeps talking like "we were blowing them off the ball" in pressers...I'm grabbing my pitchfork & joining the mob against Rex. I'm beyond sick of pitiful offense
http://instagram.com/p/rNv39PreHQ/ that Hill catch… its like an amalgam of his pro career. fast, deep ball threat, catches in the most awakard way possible. not the most graceful of displays of athletic ability, maybe even ill advised to try it that way, but it could get the job done every so often…maybe? Everything about him says he's a role player rather than a regular starter to me. thats not even something I think of as an insult to him, its just what it is.
Unbelievable. It used to be that too much emphasis was put on preseason games by fans on this board. Now the entire season is predicated on the Green and White scrimmage after two weeks of practice and its time to set the starting lineup. Smith sucks, Vick should start because he had some good runs, Decker was a waste of money, Salas is on his way to Canton, the OL can't block, Ryan should be fired because the best short yardage defense in the NFL stuffed the second team O from the 1 yard line.Blah blah blah, the sky is falling. How about we make these observations in October after 5-6 real games and not a 90 minute intrasquad scrimmage? Please.
The D is shutting shit down but I am not drinking the Geno cool aid. Sooner or later he is going to have to make some hard throws. Not one shot at a TE on that goal line stand. Come on man !!!
Our starting QB, offensive line, and tight ends are complete question marks at this point. we can only hope some of them surprise, as we'll need that to truly be successful. Our second string OL is utter garbage if you ask me. Our second string Dline is starting NFL caliber quality. so of all things, it's the second string Oline not punching one in that is going to send you over the edge, and join some sort of fire Rex bandwagon? in a scrimmage?? i'm sorry dude but that's weak.
great separation, great speed, crazy awkward catch. he unnecessarily jumped, caught in underhand for some reason, and managed to low point the catch rather than nabbing it up high. frustrating really, as the potential is clearly there. that said, if he can create that type of deep separation on the regular, he'll have a real nice role in this O. I'll take that for now.
lolololololololololololol it's good that he's getting open and making catches but wow, nice attempt at trying to excuse a known weakness of hill. personally as long as he's getting open and making catches idgaf if he catches it like this every time.
Our defense did that to other, better offenses last season on multiple occasions. No reason to think they can't do it against our 2nd teamers. Plus at least they didn't pull a Schotty and make an obvious pass play on 3rd. Running three straight downs is what they should have done. I think he was lost on Milliner Peninsula.
Lets at least get a preseason game underweigh before jumping to conclusions. Is Rex calling plays for offense now? Of course he's going to love it when the D gets a goal line stop at the 1. Pretty sure they beat the Falcons last year like that and also did it to the Saints. If Ivory was the one trying to punch it in with the 1st team OL I might be concerned about that.
And I thought West Virginia fans were bad. Jesus, guys. It was a scrimmage. You're ready to abandon ship, determine who is going to suck, and light the "Fire Rex" torches because the offense wasn't perfect? I love football as much as anyone, but if you're worrying that much about a training camp scrimmage, you need to get a life.
