I read that story this a.m. and was going to post it. Very heartwarming. I love stuff like that. The biggest thing I took away from it? Sign him! ; )
That was unfortunately a big issue, I spoke to Fred Baxter for like 15 minutes having no idea who he was. I finally had to ask him his name which was definitely not one of my prouder moments. Definitely a reminder of my old age kicking in as I was having trouble recognizing some of the faces I should’ve definitely remembered, like Holmes. Definitely a great moment with the kid, the fans did it justice with a very loud ovation, the loudest the place got all night. One more thing of note for me was Darnold is huge. You see 6’4 230 and think big but when I saw him at first he was much bigger than I thought.
I saw a clip of the players signing for fans. Just gives you perspective on how big these dudes are. Darnold is huge but the O and D lineman are walking mountains. If Leonard Williams tackled me I'd go on disability for 2 months
Expectations overload really. But if you're watching Darnold and not realizing how good and ahead of the curve he looks then you just don't understand football. We forgot quickly (and maybe that's not all that bad a thing) just how horrific Petty and Hackenberg looked relative to this. You can't expect Sam to complete EVERY throw. Or not make any mistakes. Important thing is he learns from his mistakes at a lightning quick pace. He does. He has a great football IQ and an uncanny natural feel for the game. Though he's not perfect. But all we need to do is look at Elway, Brady, Manning when their careers were in their infancy. They made lots of mistakes, big mistakes, and look how they turned out
Kind of suspect it's a bone bruise or something. But yea sore could be just what they're saying until more tests are run
Hopefully Jerry Holmes, not Santonio. My BIL is 6'6 and about 185. Looks like a beanpole. My sister is close to 6'. My other sister is 5'8". My birthfather is 6'2". I'm 5' 1 1/2". How does that happen?! What was this about again? Sam Darnold, right.
Very nice move by Cannon too avoiding first contact. And you're right if that's not back shoulder and if he has to adjust more to the ball the play goes nowhere. So many of our past QB's probably have the receiver trying to come back fore a shoestring catch. Or go back towards the LOS just to corral an errant throw
Agree 100xs over. So impressed with his demeanor and calmness too. Is interesting that we assume a missed pass is on the QB. As if we can assume with any certainty that these inexperienced WRs are running the right routes, reading the D correctly and making the right option.
Damn his release got tight. I wouldn't even notice anything unusual about it if I weren't already looking for it.
One of the other reasons I preferred Sam to Rosen. Darnold looks like he grew up on a farm, like a Big Ben or Peyton or the like. Not quite as big but beefy. Rosen is a string bean and I don’t think he’s going to play many 16 game seasons.
"String bean"??? Last time I heard that it was Clowney calling Claude Kirshner an old sting bean on 50s tv ahahaha
Yup, nice observation. Read earlier today someone posting that he has a funky motion that still needs to be fixed. 1. His release is quick so what's to fix, 2 nothing about his motion is funky. Or limiting so why mess with it?
His motion was very exaggerated in college. The ball spent a lot of time below his waist which some attributed to the influx of turnovers. However, it absolutely has improved quite a bit since then. This is a true testament to Darnold’s ongoing commitment to excellent. The guy compacted his motion, learned a new playbook, learned new WRs, and is still in contention to start. Dick Hammer baby.
Very curious to see if Darnold’s throwing motion reverts on Friday when the bullets are live and he’s not wearing a red jersey. From the videos I’ve seen, his motion is almost unrecognizable. He’s cleaned it up tremendously, and I didn’t think it was terrible to start with.
He changed his motion before his final season. Shortened it a bit and really improved his release time. It's one of the things I love about him, he's not satisfied with what he's accomplished, wants to be great and keeps working at it. Noticed his motion was noticeably cleaned up for his pro day too. People commented that his work with Palmer paid dividends. We should all take this along with your last line as a good indication of what we got with this pick!
Literally thinking this to myself after I posted but before you did. We’ll see how “natural” this new motion or rhythm or whatever you want to call it is for him.
I . Will see but so far so good. Pretty impressive what he has done to date on his adjustments. Preseason will tell us plenty more. But this kid is a sponge when it comes to learning the play book and pretty amazing on reading defensive formations. They threw the entire book at him from day one and he is looking pretty natural after only three freaking practices. What ever he has done in three practices far and exceeds what any rookie has done for the Jets thru preseason since time memorial.
