Do you really want someone with the ceiling of a "solid backup qb" to be competing for the starting QB spot on your favorite team? I know Sanchez has had his struggles, but all buttfumbles aside, he's still a decent NFL QB. Geno is competing because is the future and he has the tools and intelligence to become a great QB. McElroy will be what he is, a solid backup QB.
I love GMac and this time next year think he'll be something special. He's still very young (25) and has nearly all the tools. My only concern is arm strength, but with the WCO that may suit him a lot better, reminds me of Chad.
Here we go with the SackElroy crap again. He lit up the 3rd or 4th team defense. That's the type of competition he can play against. He's not an NFL starter. He never will be. Brooks Bollinger had more physical talent.
However he does have the makeup to be a career back-up ala Pat Ryan. There is a chance he is in this league when Sanchez is long gone.
So Geno gets 3-1 1st team snaps, including the first snaps of the night, over Sanchez in the first team scrimmage. The excuse is that it was Geno's turn to run with the ones ... as if the scrimmage is just another practice. It's different than just another practice. Obviously it's not a game or even a preseason game but it's different than just another practice. And then there's Rex's comments on each QB's performance ... On Geno's performance: absolutely
lol, Manish has been bitching all night and until now about the fact that our PR doesn't allow media to take pictures of formations. He should be lucky he hasn't had his credentials revoked and that he covers the Jets. Patriots don't even allow media tweeting at all
2 years ago we heard something like: The Jets are a circus, everything leaks to the media, they talk too much Now: The Jets are too secretive not allowing us to tweet pictures of a scrimmage/practice
I don't think you're reading into it too much. I think the coaching staff is seeing significantly more from Geno in terms of basic QBing. Not so much the completions but mechanics, decision making, arm stength, and something I was very happy to hear about Geno yesterday: decisiveness.
I've always liked GMac. In hindsight, I wish we had played him more last season after the Sanchez benching. The reps would have been invaluable.
I disagree he is totally shot here, ne needs a change of scenery, decent NFL QB's don't have 50 turnovers in 2 years..
Lol it's only a scrimage no other team in the league broadcasts scrimages but bad Job by the Jets give me a break
Sanchez was I belive 7 for 11. 92 yards 1int , a fumbled snap, then he tripped over his own feet for a shoe lace sack ( I'm not making this up) he had 1 td, I forget Genos numbers but he got more series with starters he thre for 77 no ints 1 sack and a td , the crowd booed Sanchez on the Cro pick , and the shoelace sack , also booed him when the 2 o line hiked ball over his head,Mclroy looked better then both of them according to some
Sanchez will be in the CFL next year and Gmac will back up Geno. one more season of Nacho... Only he will be holding a clipboard
