by the way, I am not saying Chad is better than Joe was. I think had was on his way early but the injuries held him back but then again if joe could have avoided injuries he would legitimately have been a top 5-10 QB in NFL history.

Since no one did, thought I'd give Mawae a pop. Consider, he's the only player that was the unquestioned starter at his position at the pro-bowl every year he played on the team. Certainly, you can't do any better than that. Of course, he had much less of an impact being a center as opposed to a QB. But if we're talking "football player"....he's the best football player that ever played for the team.

Based on Pro Bowls for the Jets Winston Hill is the leader, I think followed by Powell. Don't forget Mawae wasn't a pro bowl player for the Jets in 98 which was his 5th straight none pro bowl year and he was awful in 05 prior to his injury.

We finally agree on something. Chad wasn't in Joe's class and had Joe not had the knee injuries he probably is much higher on the all time list.

Joe won us a Super Bowl, but he was also an interception machine. I don't know how confident many Jet fans today would be if Joe (in his prime) was behind center instead of Chad.

He would throw fewer interceptions in this era. There have been several important rule changes that have made it easier for passers since Namath retired.

    I voted Curtis #1
But Broadway Joe is a Close second although I mostly remember the Post Suberbowl - crippled Knees Namath.

I think Joes Historical Impact is Huge , from his decision to go to the AFL over the NFL , SB III , and Advertising etc.

Both are HOF Players and I just think that Where CM stands against ALL Time RB's is a little Higher than where Namath stands against all tims QBs.

Joe Klecko is a distant third

Fair points, but wasn't that guy on the Steelers in the pro bowl every year before Mawae? Mawae was certainly rising at that point and in 98 he played every snap and the Jets were the # 2 offense in the conference. As far as him getting hurt, hey, Namath got hurt and stayed hurt forever. Curtis got hurt. I'll stick with Mawae as far as stellar performance for his entire career here until getting hurt in 05. He was the best in the league at his position while here. You can't say that about Curtis or Namath.

You're talking about Dawson from the Steelers?

I happen to agree that Mawae was better at Center for the Jets than Curtis was at RB and he was more dominant at his position than Curtis comparatively to others in the league.

I think in the last twenty years you can make a fair argument that Mawae is the greatest Jet especially compared to contemporaries at his position when he played for the Jets.

Why I like Namath and Hill particularly over the Mawae is both of them where great compared to their contemporaries and both of them raised their games to impact level to get the Jets a SB. Namath was great in the playoffs and in the SB and Hill absolutely dominated what was considered at the time the best DL in football. He was pushing them back on every runnning play. To me what seperates the great players is in the big games against the top competition, they impact the game in a manner that gets you the win.

Sorry but from 1966 - 70 Joe Namath was the Best QB in the League (AFL).

I don't disagree, but he was here for years after that and he was far from the best Qb. It's because he got hurt, but still, that plays into it.

True - But thats still about the same amount of years that Mawae was here and supposedly the Best in the League.

I personally dont even think that Mawae was the best Jets center ever , Joe Fields was better but didnt get the recognition because of Mike Webster
