Question from a younger Jets fan, How come O'Brien isn't held with much love like some of the great Jets? His numbers aren't bad really.

Please don't crucify me I am just curious.

I think you'll find that there are two camps on this one: those who like him, and those who don't.

The negatives are that he never got the team to the promised land, the Jets drafted him over Marino, and by the end of his career, he was so bruised and battered that he lost a lot of his effectiveness.

Overall, he was pretty good, but not great. He had some great moments, though. Sort of in the Chad Pennington category.

Yeah, its unfortunate that people blame him for the front office taking him over Marino. If I recall correctly four other teams picked quarterbacks before Marino. Thanks for the response I hope Sanchez can be more like Namath and less like O'Brien.

He was good for a year (1985) and a half (1986). After that he was thoroughly mediocre.
