So 15-25 years ago the Bills were the better team. Lol give me a break. Bills have been awful for a long time now. Jets are 15-9 vs the Bills and what does that say about the Jets? Um how about that we have been a far better team apparently. We have also won the last 5 games and now you expect because you got Mario Williams that you are going to all of a sudden become a winning team. Isn't that the same thing as people here getting excited over draft picks?
Good read, now see if he can handle the NFL and show he was worthy of the 3rd round. Still free we reached in rounds 1 and 3, but loved all the other picks.
Get this man a tissue... Dude your our teams site bringing up your team of course you'll see every hater there is Edit: P.s :buffaloblows:
Well, we'll see if the Jets bring in another safety. I think there's a good chance they bring in a Bell or a Leonhard, and if they do, Bush/Allen will play a small role. But if someone impresses, there's definitely room for playing time at safety. It wouldn't surprise me if Bush ended up starting this season at some point just because of Landry's injury concerns. They might keep Smith as the de jure starter. We'll see. Depends how he looks in camp. This guy started 2.5 years in college and had a good senior season. Right now, LaRon Landry and his shaky Achilles and Eric Smith are the starters. Until someone else is brought in, which is likely, there's a clear path for playing time right away.
Brad, I totally agree with your assessment of the problem last year. At best it seems the Jets MAY have added speed at ILB. That may help, in fact it should. Whether that is enough remains to be seen, but imo the Jets still overall have a somewhere around fifth best D.
I don't see any clear intention on the FO's part to replace Smith, not from any of the moves they have made. But ftr my skepticism about Bush is not so much whether he plays at all, since as you point out there is some likelihood of that. The question was whether he SOLVES the problems at safety.
If the Jets go to a 46 then Eric Smith has a real chance to be a plus player as the safety up in the box. That's the wild card. He does have the quickness to defend the slants and short crossing patterns that the 46 leaves the offense while it is breaking down the pocket and he clearly is ok in run support in the middle of the field. In 2009 he had several really sparkly plays in that role off of all the blitzing when he broke up short passes from harried QB's who were just dumping the ball off as fast as they could. If the Jets are going to stay with a coverage based defense, well that's not Smith's forte because it is easy for old ladies in wheelchairs to get separation from him 10+ yards down the field.
