Player to Watch: Simone Pouha yeh, we watched him get fatter while he got abused by every center he faced... what a waste of a pick.
Last year it was pretty concise.... as good as it gets for a message board, let's put it that way. There might be a couple of threads per day that wander, but by and large the TC posts didn't have you clicking all over the place. Somebody usually starts a thread titled, "TC Report, 8/14," and most guys who were there put in their observations.
I was somewhat disappointed with Pouha at camp last year. This is going to be his year to either put up or pack up. The guys just seems a little low-key to me. I even got his autograph on my ball and talked to him briefly outside of the Netherlands. But the guy is VERY low key... VERY. Walks around in flip-flops when he walks over to lunch. Maybe it was just the atmosphere Herm created... I don't know, but he didn't impress many people last summer. Looking for him to start showing some aggressive attitude, otherwise he's gone.
As a Herm-related aside, I see in the paper this morning that Ty Law signed a 5-year, $30 Million contract with KC. Law will pair with Patrick Surtain because Herm has "vowed to revamp a KC defense that the past 5 years has been near the bottom of the league." 5 years? $30 Million? I guess Herm worked real hard talking somebody into this, but if this gamble doesn't pay off for them they're looking at some serious Cap woes in the future on an aging CB. The destruction of a perfectly good football team commences...
really! what is herm thinking... im not sure what the shelf-life on cb's is, but it certainly seems like law's was dwindiling. kc now has the a bunch of former all-stars in there backfield.
rajensen088 vs. championjets69 When 2 trolls collide... would make one hell of a dvd. Why aren't these 2 duking it out regularly anyway? :breakdance:
Thanks 227. As an aside to your Law observation, here's the following written by Peter King of SI today: 6. I think Ty Law signing with the Chiefs surprises me. Not that I didn't think he'd go to the highest bidder, but I didn't think he'd go to a Herman Edwards team. I heard late last year that Edwards was tired of dealing with Law on the Jets and thought the cornerback had some prima donna in him. But the Chiefs had a need for someone to pair with Patrick Surtain and Law obviously still has something left. The move will disappoint the Patriots, who wanted him but never wanted to pay him much.
Now, that is a silly comment. For one thing, Pouha isn't fat. Secondly, yes, he was drafted too high, but what the heck do people expect from a kid who was labeled a project when he was drafted? He wasn't the DROY, so he sucks, right? When he was at camp last year, his technique and mechanics were really bad. That is why he was labeled a project in the first place. I saw him improve last year... going from having his feet too close together, taking steps that were too long and not using his arms to prevent O linemen from tying him up to a wider stance, taking short choppy steps, and using his considerable arm stregnth to fend off. He has a ways to go yet, but I didn't see him getting coached up much in last year's TC. These improvements in his fundamentals and technique also have to become automatic.... like habits, something he does without having to think about it. One year for a project.... and Jets fans are ready to cut him. Typical impatient fans..... I guess we'll hear about this sort of thing all year long, when we lose as many games as I expect we will. Pouha will get, and should get another year before any judgement is passed on him. This isn't a school project that gets done over a weekend. In the NFL, being a project means a MINIMUM of two years. If he shows a continuing improvement over last year, he could be just what we need at NT for the next 6 years. Petro pinned a TC report thread last year, but.... most of us ignored it! :drunk: I guess we should stick to Petro's thread this year. There were plenty of great reports here last year. I'm sure that will continue.
The thing with Law last year was, if you all remember, Law was given special privileges by Herm right from the get-go. The reasoning was that Ty needed time for his foot to heal. That's why it surprises me that word would get out that Herm thought he was a prima donna. If that were the case, then Herm created the prima donna for himself. Law showed up several times and basically stood on the sidelines. You'd think he would have at least offered advice to some of the rookies, but he distanced himself and pretty much kept to himself. he took part in the walking stretches and then stood on the sidelines watching and checking his bank statements. But who knows when it comes to Herm and nothing should surprise anyone. Law excused practices aside, reports were still rampant last year that Herm's rules were all over the place.... different rules for just about everybody on the practice field. There was one common thread though, and I can attest to it... there was not much work going on. Herm walked around with his absolutely absurd sweatshirt on, as if he were setting some sort of example about the heat. I was there one day when the thermometer on my rear view mirror on my Tahoe read 102 degrees, and I was parked in the shade just outside the gate (next to the Modell's tent). Herm was walking around in this absolutely silly outfit and the rest of the team followed suit and kind of walked around too. They barely ever started on time and even then, the stretching was drawn out. Lunch breaks came early as people wandered off the field 15 minutes early, headed for the showers. A lot of hands on hips and standing around. The hardest working coach had to be Mike Westhoff. He hustled that ST around and barked stuff constantly. The Def broke sweat occasionally and the 7-7 and 11-11 drills gave the crowd something fun to watch on offense for an hour or so, with Penny throwing nothing further than 20 or 25-yard passes. But windsprints, running, any kind of calethetics was non-existant. With the head coach wearing a ridiculous sweatshirt and setting the pace, the whole team slacked. Absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah..those Herm doubles ate the team up...8:30-8:45...and then a quick bounce back 11:00-11:54 (gave the team an extra 6 minutes to get to the lunch room). Whats not included in that article in Herms defense is the film room 2 pm to 4pm...featuring the best of spongebob squarepants followed by that lovable purple dinosaur, Barney. Herm would then address the team soon after...around 4:02 pm...and scream at the team: "Did you see Barney fumble that kid? Dang straight he didnt..he held that kid tighter than a loaf of bread...and what about spongebob squarepants..dang thing has all those holes in his body..kind of like a sponge...here him complainin? nope..."
