First you defend their scouting department, then you admit they reached for McDougle. You'd make a good politician--you play both sides very well. McDougle was the biggest reach of the draft.
Thanks GOD I didn't vote on this when it first posted...now I can put an 'F' out there with confidence.
can you really? are you sure that the draft was a failure based on half a season? I don't think you can, not objectively.
I want really defending them, merely saying that I value the Jets draft opinion over that of NFL.com. McDougle wasn't the 256th best player in the draft and the third round wasn't as ridiculous of a reach as you seem to think.
I put a D and not an F soley because I think Amaro can be a huge weapon. That's about it.. The Louisville Slugger was a waste of a pick.
Is he really a "huge weapon"? I see Amaro as a solid TE, whose solid play looks really good because of how bad we are on offense. I don't see a game changer, unless I'm missing something.
One starter, one part timer, a couple of bench players, some injuries, have to see another couple of years. Right now a D- .
That's not true. The NFL.com stuff and the rest of the media ratings were put out before the Combine and the Maryland Pro Day. McDougle by many accounts moved up the boards of many NFL teams once they saw him at the Pro Day and had their attention drawn to his film. He was under the radar of the media publications that gathered their info early. Referencing material gathered before the College All Star games, The Combine, and Pro days is often times inaccurate. That's why the Media Big Boards change so much leading up to the draft. Before he got hurt all signs were pointing to him moving up the depth chart rapidly. I thought he showed right away that he was better a CB than Milliner. The grade is incomplete on McDougle. IMO, not the guy to use as an example of their overall ineptitude. They have made good picks, i,e Revis. Just sayin'. I've been on here screaming and yelling since this shit crashed and burned. There's a lot to look at other than McDougle. That was not a reach as depicted by some of the media that really didn't have all the info but wanted to shoot their mouths off anyway. And not to say that this Franchise hasn't made mind boggling decisions on some their picks
Appreciate your opinion but I think the jets could have had McDougle with one of their 4 sixth-round picks, and taking him in the 3rd round was a huge reach. All the stuff I read from various sources had him going in the 7th round at best and many had him as an undrafted free agent.
Considering we had 12 picks and what we have left of those picks today, D is a fair grade. We wasted the 1st pick when Cooks was available, and put our faith in often injured players.
