I love the first two picks, like the Clemens pick, and am completely puzzled by the last two. Sure they tough, smart players, but not very talented. Overall I give it a B-, would have been higher if not for those last two questionable moves.
I gave it a C, but I find that very generous considering we could've had Matt Leinart, Chad Jackson, Winston Justice, and Chris Gocong with our first four picks, all of whom would've started next year, and ended up with D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, Kellen Clemens, and Anthony Shleigel, only one who is expected to start next year. By Round: 4) I didn't mind the D'Brick pick, I would've prefered Leinart but I don't mind adding a franchise LT, especially since that was our biggest need 29) I don't like the Mangold pick, I feel Teague is fine at center this year and we could've taken a C for the future later. I said all along we needed playmakers, and passing up on Chad Jackson, who was the big, fast, WR our offense badly needed, was terrible to me 35) This was even worse, letting Jackson slip out of our hands and then letting the PATS get him. I do really like Clemens though, he put up great numbers over his three year career and I think he has potential 71) One of the worst picks of the draft, pass up on Gocong, who would've started at OLB for us, for a crappy ILB that will at best be a special-teams player 97) Another safety? Why? So to be honest, the only pick I really liked was Clemens, and D'Brickashaw was OK with me too.
Yay! We endured the 2005 season to get the 4th overall pick so we could spend it on an overhyped LT who is average against the run! Instead, we could have paired Vilma with the possible next coming of Dick Butkus or replaced our crapfest at TE with the possible next coming of Kellen Winslow Sr. Make no mistake, we did not get the possible next coming of Orlando Pace, and you can take that to the bank.
I wasn't the biggest D'Brick fan in the world, but you cannot be serious. You think there is a better chance that Hawk becomes a top 3 LB in NFL history, and Davis a top 3 TE in NFL history, then D'Brick has of being a top 20 LT in NFL history? Seriously? Wow.
Some here are forgetting that we managed to get ammo to trade up for next season by getting the Skins second round pick. A couple of questionable picks in the 3rd round when a bunch of other teams are doing the same isn't going to change my opinion of the top three. It's an excellent direction in the long run, IMO.
Don't know what you mean, first round picks don't show your worth, at 4 they took everyone's top OL, I'm suppossed to give them credit for that? At 29, I guess they could have screwed that up, the Giants did but still to me they just made a solid pick. I like what they did in the 2nd a lot, thye were going to take Clemens regardless and they netted a 2 next year, actually maybe I'd raise my grade to D because of that. but then with 2 chances in the 3rd where there aren't any no brainers, they chose two guys who I think are 6th rounders or worse and they're guys with no athletic upside. I don't give teams A's for drafting Reggie Bush, I could do that.
Where do you get top 3 and top 20 from? I think there is a better chance of Hawk becoming a top 10 ever, or Davis of becoming a top 10 ever, than Brick becoming a top 10 ever. Tell me you seriously disagree. Seriously?
Some would quibble with our abilities to judge the draft, as we are not personnel people, but I certainly can have my opinion and, like many others, think those last two picks possess some nice qualities, but lack many other nicer qualities, like an ability to play in the NFL, or stay on the field in the NFL. There are still many players I like on the board that would fill some of our needs: Parys Haralson and Andre Hall come to mind. We'll see what the second day brings, but I thought the third round showed a lack of awareness about value.
Well, because you associated Hawk with Dick Butkus (top 3 LB all time), Davis with Kellen Winslow Sr. (arguably top 3 TE all time), and D'Brick with Orlando Pace (maybe top 20 LT all time). What you're now saying is a lot different than what you said before, and it's something no one knows right now.
dont worry, we'll take another safety with washingtons second round pick next year, it'll makeup for everything
