Gosder Cherilus

Discussion in 'Draft' started by gustoonarmy, Jan 26, 2008.

  1. I'm not talking about him as a player in general...I'm referring to the video everyone is raving about. From what ive seen of him in games...I like...but that video does not do him alot of good.

Heh, I hadn't even watched the video. I was going by when I've seen him play previously. You're right though, that wasn't a very good video. He apparently had iffy enough of a senior bowl to possibly knock him down into the 2nd round, where he's a steal for us if we nab him.

Feb 23 Boston College OL Gosder Cherilus said during his NFL Scouting Combine interview that he has talked with the New York Jets.

Via NFL.com, from the combine today:

"One NFC scout said that among the first group of offensive linemen, Gosder Cherilus of Boston College and O'Neil Cousins of UTEP stood out."

I'm not gonna get my hopes up about picking him like I did with Blaylock last year, but this kid seems like the best "pure" RT in the draft. He doesn't seem to have the footwork to handle the speed rushers the LT has to, but is a mauler and could be just what we need to help the running game.

I think what he lacks in technique there , he more than makes up for it with aggression.
If we do end up trading Vilma , we could snag him early 2nd or late 1st , if thats where he ends up.( If we get picks of course)

Brilliant. Lets draft an OT to play as a run blocking RT from an offense which could not run the ball at all and relied entirely on their passing offense.

I'd prefer my RT to be able to run block. Gosder Cherilus has a huge frame, but I would question drafting a RT who didn't prove that he can run block in college.

If I want a RT who can pass block give me Chris Williams he's a much better all around OT. If i want a RT who can really run block give me Carl Nicks....He can give you a lead block.

Oh yeah absolutely, that's what I meant. I personally still think there's a 50/50 shot he's there at our 2nd rounder, and I think I jump all over him if that's the case.

If there's anything to have been learned by the Jets this year, it's that 1 guy can't carry a line. Mangold was a pretty damn good run blocker in 06, but couldn't do a thing with crap to his immediate left and even more crap 2 people down to the right. The O-Line lives and dies as a unit. You can't blame Cherilus specifically for BC' inability to run, just like you can't blame Mangold for that with us this year.

Today both Mayock and Dukes said Nicks would most likely play guard. I'm not sure why since he looked like a stud today at the combine, but they both said that and the rest of the people on the set agreed.

I saw Mayock do a segment on that Cousins guy and how mean he was. He just kept showing play after play where Cousins would never stop attacking the other guy until he was on the ground. He's got a real nasty streak.

Its his pass blocking which is questionable not his run blocking.

BCs inability to run was IMO down to the personell at RB. The WRs were also very ordinary , which for me highlights how good Ryan actually is at running the O.
BC are going to struggle big time next season.

You and me both. BC has lost alot of good key players , notably Ryan, Tribble, Dunbar and Silva , but you never know with BC , hope I'm wrong.
    Go Eagles!
