junc, you were claiming "most people". Well, the over/under line was 8. Obviously you're wrong.

exactly. That was part of it for me.

But junc will of course say it was a fluke injury and had nothing to do with it yadda yadda.

    Of course it did.

Page is better than Smith and Coleman.
Hali vs Ellis- I can be persuaded that Ellis is better. Why not? I'll give you that one.
Edwards vs Thomas- no. I'm taking Edwards.
I'm taking Law right now. I'll take Revis starting in Week 1 of 2008. Revis is making rookie mistakes. He'll study his mistakes in the offseason and be better next year. Right now, in my opinion, Law is better.
We are in agreement everywhere else I think. If you do all the calculations you'll find out we each rate the teams fairly evenly in talent.
So why did you surreptitiously state earlier in this thread that the Chiefs clearly have less talent than the Jets?

I don't surf the internet nearly as much as you. I have no predictions handy and I sure as hell am not going to waste my time looking for any.
I got the idea the Chiefs were being picked for 7 wins more so than any other number between 0 and 16. Ditto New York Jets. If you don't like what I just wrong, that's tough.

This is my final post of the night.

nyjunc- Did you read post #55? In that post I was letting you know I don't care who might be right and who might be wrong. This became another ridiculous nyjuncian thread where there are all sorts of arguments and people are wasting their time.

I'll post the message again. Maybe you'll get it this time.

This thread is close to getting out of hand.
There are now three big debates going on here.
    A) whether or not it was an idiotic call to go for it on 4th down
    B) which team has more talent
    C) whether the Chiefs were expected to win 7 games or 4 games

How about we all just agree to disagree about everything and stop talking about the silly Chiefs?

junc can't stop talking about the Chiefs because their coach is his favorite person in the world.

Leon only has 13 punt returns, to Eddie Drummond's 24, of course Washington's going to have a better average. The punters aren't even, because Graham shanks one at least once a game and he gets no hangtime on the ball. No one calls a fair catch more than once against us.

not kicking a tying FG is just asinine, plain and simple. the problem with Herm was never that he JUST kicked FG's when the situation called for it, it was that he called plays on downs 1 through 3 to SETTLE for FG's. huge difference between that and going for it on 4th down when it isn't necessary. being unnecessarily aggressive is just as bad as being too conservative, and exemplifies his poor coaching abilities.

Well...Herm wasn't calling the plays. Hackett and Heimerdinger were both pretty bad. Edwards just doesn't know how to manage a game -- before he went for it on fourth, he called a timeout, lost a challenge, lost another timeout, and then his team ran the ball on fourth and short and failed. You have to take the field goal, especially with the Chiefs still sort of in the playoff race because their division is so close this season. I could see why someone like Cam Cameron, who's team is 0-11, would go for it on 4th and short, becauset the Dolphins have nothing to lose, but the Chiefs lost a lot with that idiotic call.

he may not be calling the plays, but the offensive coordinators are surely calling the plays that adhere to his philosophy and demands. considering how consistent the conservative plays were called, if Herm wanted more aggressive plays called you would have seen a change at some point in the playcalling. the fact that there was no change shows that those play calls were done so not only with the full support of Herm but more than likely by his own game planning.

I don't really care what the over/under was, I never mentioned the over/under. Most of the predictions in the magazines and online were for 3-4 wins and most of the people on MBs expected as much as well.

So it was herm handing the ball of to LJ 400 times that forced the defender to land on LJ's leg and hurt him? ok, get it.

Of course Herm ruined im, look up Cakes' posts on the subject. he andled that nonsense very wll.

I am pretty sure you are on here alot more than I am so all you have to do is put in a search at yahoo! and you'll find what you are looking for.

I went post by post responding to th quotes irected towards me, you rpost was atthe end. I wasn't all of a sudden going to delete my posts since you wanted to move on.

I don't like talking about the Chiefs, I hve to when people post foolish things though. herm gets bashed for every thing he does, if herm dos it he gets bashed while if another coach does it nothing happens. I know he deserves to get bashed or calling a TO then challenging but where were the Romeo Crennel bashers 2 weeks arlier when he did the same thing?

why is it "of course" he'll have a better average? it's an average and the # is w/in 1 or so. it's ot like Drummond has 200 and Leon had 15. leon is a better return man all around, Drummond at one point in his career was a relly good return man but not anymore.

I might be here more than you. These days, anyway. You still have posted at TGG more than any other person.
I only go to a couple websites and the rest of my time is spent on e-mail and my fantasy league message boards (which will end soon because I now only play fantasy football).
You posted links to espn.com and sportsline.com. I never go to those sites unless there is an interesting article that somebody mentioned here.
I was going by SI, annuals I perused at bookstores, predictions in my local newspaper, and the Las Vegas over/unders (which are more important than anything else as far as this argument is concerned). The Chiefs were looked at as a 7-win type of team from what I saw. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I agree that the Herman Edwards bashing has gone overboard here. You have to understand, though, that this is a Jets board and anytime he does something that might not be good, people will bash him.

The interesting thing about Sunday's game to me, is I don't think anybody participating in this thread actually watched the game. I sure as shit didn't. Who the heck wants to watch two crappy teams play when there were a couple halfway decent games on at the same time, such as Texans-Browns and Redskins-Buccaneers.

I actually watched parts of this game, including "the call"...

It would have been one thing if the score was 21-24 or something like that, at least then you would have shown to be able to move the ball somewhat consistently.

...but when you're down 10-13 through 3 and a half quarters, you've pretty much proven that your offense just isn't getting it done, can't, and won't. At that point, if you're in field goal range, you take the points.

Any other decision, is foolhardy, at best.

You said most people. Apparently, you no longer know what that means.

Did you look through all the messageboards?

A few Jets fans thought the Chiefs would do poorly so therefore "most people" thought the Chiefs would win 3-4 games? You could hardly be more clueless.

and no, I'm not giving in to you so you can say you "won your argument." You're so wrong it's incredible.

Injuries are more likely. Every kind of injury.

Most injuries you would argue would be flukes.

Herm ruined Larry Johnson. Anyone who doesn't have a crush on Herm realizes that.

I don't love doing this, because this could start another nyjunc debate. I sort of wish this thread would die, but what I'm posting here should not create much trouble.

    Football Outsiders charted hurries.

    http://www.footballoutsiders.com/2007/11/30/extra-points/5828/

You'll see Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson, along with Jared Allen, are among the best at putting pressure on QBs.

I also have this excerpt laying around. It was from an article written by some Ira Miller some weeks back about overrated statistics.

I think some of you guys (although you are raising good points) are deviating from the main point of the original post, which has more to do with going for it on 4th down than anything else.

My opinion is that I will never fault a coach for going on it on 4th down unless it is a FG-and-you-win situation. I like a coach that has some balls. Especially if it's 4th and short. Herm did not show very much balls in his last season coaching for the Jets and he deserved to get fired for that but I respect any coach that has some cojones and goes for it on 4th down. Maybe Herm is evolving a little bit as a coach. I like the call even though it failed.

I can respect Herm for going for it on 4th.. it's a gutsy move but I've got nothing against a coach deciding to end the game without going into overtime. That doesn't mean that Hermy isn't an idiot for making that call.. because he is. He should have been aware that his team isn't good enough to pull that off, but going into overtime (against the Raiders) might've given him the opportunity to win. Now that he isn't a Jet, I kinda feel sorry for the guy.. poor sap.
